from what youve said its alot more involved than you think.

before running higher boost, you'll want either a full cat back or turbo back exhaust, your current exhaust wont be able to get enough air through it once boost is turned up, so you wont gain much power as the engine will be hurting itself as it struggles to force the air back out the exhaust, kinda like tyring to push an orange through a drinking straw.

i'd also suggest getting a pod filter, once the boost is turned up the turbo will be sucking in a hell of a lot more air, having a pod filter will suck in more air and do it more efficiently and faster, thus feeding the turbo the extra air it needs.

in regard to the boost controller you will need, i'd suggest staying away from bleed valves (they are a valve that fools the turbo into thinking its getting less air so it spools harder to compensate, which turns into more power, correct me if im wrong guys but this is the basic premise right?)

i would go with an electronic boost controller (something like an apexi or hks) as it wont spike and its much easier to control what boost you run and easier to adjust.

also it would be a good idea to install a front mount intercooler (FMIC) as the days are getting much hotter, if you run higher boost the car will get much hotter and likely doing damage due to overheating. the FMIC will cool the engine and keep your running temp nice and low. and it will also give you more power.

your current ecu will have a boost cut installed but shouldnt come into play unless you run very high boost, dont run your boost cont over 12psi, as the stock turbo, clutch and internals will most likely sh*t themselves eventually.

so thats a brief run down for you on what you'll need to get started. im sure i have some details wrong so guys please feel to correct me. hope that helps

Andrew.

epends on where you are. in most places your only allowed to have one different means of induction (i think thats the term) so either a pod filter or FMIC.

in canberra however you can have whatever you want. but if you start modifying your car to be completely legal you can forget it immediatly, its basically a matter of hiding what you have or accepting that your gonna cop defects.

easy way out of it is just buy a turbosmart bleed valve and simply up the boost to around 10psi. Better way is to get an exhaust, intercooler then boost it up around 12psi and tune up with an air/fuel controller or computer. Depends how far you want to go, and how much $$$ you want to spend...

You could look into using bits off the R32 GTR ie filter and intercooler , with the appropriate fixings they are a factoty fit and look . The only mod required is the plumbing from the throttle body to meet up with the GTR intercooler outlet .

Generally the easiest if not cheapest upgrade bits come from the highest performance model of the type ie R32 and GTR . The parts are all factory engineered to suit the type . Most things off the GTR can fit into the GTST but the floor pans are slightly different so forget about the AWD transmission . If you wanted this buy a GTS4 or GTR .

I'd definately be getting you're outlet (cat-back + front/dump pipe) and cooling (pod filter, FMIC) before doing anything with the boost... This is just the advice I have been given, but I have seen lots of people up the boost without the appropriate support mods and a month or two later, they are forking out for either a new turbo, or an engine rebuild... No thanks.

ok I have an HKS 3inch cat back exhaust. Forgot to meention that (sorry) if i was to fit a POD filter would i start getting any idle problems etc etc as I have heard many things about it and am slightly confused if I can just get an adapter so I can slip on a pod filter and thats it? seems to easy?

Pod filter wont effect your idle and yes, it's as easy as getting a filter and an adapter to suit.

You can use a cheap bleed valve to increase boost by a couple of pounds but until you get a front mount is wouldn't be going nuts and winding in any more than that.

    • I have done a lot of research before posting here and on gtruk forum. couldn't find anything. I have my gauges all part except the needle itself. the needle has a extremely small hole in the center, but the shaft going to the needle is extremely small and appears to have nothing to index it either. doesn't seem strong enough to simple pry or pull without damaging something. Already tried the old spoon trick on a extra triple meter I have from a gtt, but no luck. the center cap comes off easily but the hole in the meter face plate aren't big enough to get over the needle itself. figured this would be my best place to find someone who might have actually removed theirs. wonder if there is some type of small pin press tool to push the pin in while pulling the needle base off.
