Hi guys.. just registered :rant:. I have just purchased a R34 GT-T (Not my first skyline i had a non turbo r33 95 skyline) My question is in regards to the boost setting for the standard neo turbo just for street use. The mods on the vehicle atm are minor just cat back 3 inch exhaust, bov, and airpod. I need to know what boost is recommended and what boost not to exceed etc. I also want to put a front mount intercooler on and possibly get the turbo highflowed does anyone know of any good reliable shops in the brisbane area that can do these mods. Thx for your time guys.. no doubt ill have heaps more questions as i learn more about the RB25DET.

the compressor wheel is plastic or ceramic (unsure) and will get angry over probably 12psi. Try it at say 11psi and see how it goes. The stock ecu will have boost cut limits etc but it wont prevent ceramic compressor wheel failure due to heat from the excess boost. You should get good response from 12psi, pod filter, exhaust and intercooler easily 200rwkw i'd say

Thx for your help.. The turbo engine is a completely new world for me. Im not even familiar with the boost controller atm. Going from the non turbo 33 to the GT-T is awsome .. such a massive difference in power. Im aiming for a 250 rwkw after the highflow and intercooler. The last thing i want to do is blow something cause ive upd the boost to much. Thx again

Firstly, congrats on an awesome step up, R34's rock!

Boost, many claim that all it can handle is about 12psi, I have been running 14odd for over a year no probs, however std boost on mine is about 11. Be careful because the turbo is ceramic/nylon. Make sure you get FMIC before playing with boost too much (and turbo back exhaust) or you will seriously risk f%&king your turbo.

Can't comment on hi-flowing turbo as I have heard conflicting stories.

As you mod the R34 more the first thing that will annoy you is boost/fuel cut, a safety measure to prevent overboosting/detonation. Regardless of mods the only way you will get the car above about 200rwkw's is by changing or piggybacking the ECU (ie Emanage/PowerFC etc). I believe to get to 250rwkw you will also need turbo back exhaust, FMIC, ECU mod, fuel pump and injectors if not more.

I have heard good things about 101 motorcafe, particularly for ECU work. Give them a call and they should be able to guide you through the whole process, alternatively on the GC try Autech (Gavin Wood) in labrador.

    • Starter motors used to use the weight of metal (magnets) to provide torque. Now they use (more) current instead. This. It's completely normal.
    • So thing that had me stumped, but I think is OK....is that when it was up in the air, in neutral I had it running to bleed to coolant while I put the wheels back on. I noticed the rears were turning (slowly) which I'd never seen before 20250928_163512.mp4     Because there had been an issue with clutch slip due to pedal adjustment on the dyno, I assumed there was still and issue so spent some quality time upside down under the dash adjusting the pedal....but no matter what I did the wheels still turned in neutral. Even disconnected the master cylinder to pedal rod and same. In despair, I even removed the clutch slave so there was no chance of any preload causing it.....still happened. So either: 1. Something is not right in the bellhousing, or 2. Its a thing sometimes with cold, thick gearbox oil Internet says it might be 2, I hope so!
    • OK, few more things sorted and it is ready for a shakedown on 10-Oct, with one weird thing. Changed the run in oil and filter for the good stuff. 8l came out, about 8.5 went in with filter so that looks all good. Changed the starter (again), this time for a brand new one, works good. Interesting that the Taaaarks one is shorter than factory but spins harder, I guess electronics have moved on a little in the last 30 years. Will be nice to have a bit of extra space under there. Put the timing cover back on, and noted where the cam gears were set as a record.  Will need to double check the timing but it is pretty close. Also put the coil pack cover and intake snorkel back on. Exhaust Inlet Changed the water out for coolant, bled up nicely. Removed the rear brake pads (well worn factory sumitomo ones!), gave the hardware a good clean and reassembled. I've put bendix XP on the back again because the price is excellent at $150 a set and they worked well on the V37. Front pads have plenty so no issue there
    • Mine is all -12, I’m running a dry sump in a billet block though
