Thanks all for your help, i've called Gavin and spoke to him. Seems like he's got a good handle on things.

Next question (probably in the wrong thread) but wondering who runs / organises a Nissan club to do track days, etc? is it SAU?

If so, wondering the classes that cars are categorised in for points purposes.

Thanks,

Ben

Advanced Performance Centre (Nick) in Underwood does good work. One of the rare mechanicas that can actually use the Dyno. DO NOT TRUST SUBZERO bunch of amatuers. Almost wrecked my car.

sub-zero did a perfect job on my 32.i dont know of any ametuers that can make 780 rear wheel horsepower & theyve made alot more tha that on other cars.i couldnt recomend any one better i live five hours drive from the gold coast.but their workmanship is well worth the drive :kick:

My experience has been that it’s easy to put the biggest of everything on a car to get the max HP for one or two runs. Long term reliability, usability on the track and getting the perfect tune up is another matter (butcher vs. surgeon). I'm glad they did a good job on yours because mine was a 5week disaster that was just pathetic. Had it not been re-tuned (basically as soon as I got it back) they would have destroyed the engine. Anyway it may have been a one off but I doubt it.

Lets not turn this into a SubZero slagfest eh people...

If you wish to badmouth a workshop, try and make it fictional sounding... (IE A fictional company called BelowZero are the worst workshop in QLD IMO)

Keeps the legal eagles happy that way...

Thanks people...

  • 2 months later...

A workshop called below 0 has a very bad reputation and I know personally i'd never take my car there....having said that there are many other ghey workshops around...Many ppl on here will suggest Gavin Woods, however my personal vote will go to mecury (even though ive not had any personal work done by them.....yet)

i'll third that, gavin's the only place worth taking it to, the rest are up to shit...

gavin might be ok, but i dunno about the rest being "up to 5hit." There are a few other places that are as good in my books.

I agree..... I have no problem recommending Gavin for all service requirements, 5000k services and major services but thats as far as I would go...... Modifying, and tuning there are certainly other alternatives. For that my cars go to Chapmans. He has a bad attitude/is arrogant, jobs always takes longer than he says, a lot longer, but has ALWAYS completed everything asked to the highest standard on my cars and my friends cars. And he isn't cheap...... but I think it ends up cheaper in the long run. Just my experience.....

Where workshops are concerned there will always be differing opinions as we all expect different things or place greater emphasis on certain areas of workmanship.....

Just when you find a good workshop, stick with them. They are far and few between.

*Lame-zero* did a perfect job on my 32.i dont know of any ametuers that can make 780 rear wheel horsepower & theyve made alot more tha that on other cars.i couldnt recomend any one better i live five hours drive from the gold coast.but their workmanship is well worth the drive :kick:

If Lame-zero* aren’t a bunch of amateurs, why was I sold a stolen motor? Which then followed on being impounded by the Police for months. Why did Police have to remove one of the lame-zero owners from jamboree after making threats too me? Why was the shop front wrecked? Why did the owner of TRY09’s leave? Why is the owners known quite well by gold coast Police for other things not too do with cars..

The list goes on.

I know your car, and its awesome, Lame-Zero’s custom work is up the top! But they build NOS feed cars to pull numbers and run times with no reliability. They are dodgy and take short cuts unless your spending $30k+ on something mind blowing, which will blow up soon enough anyway. Not too mention stolen items again..

I’ve used APC for dyno tune work, and was pretty happy. I’ve been to mercury and will be back. I’ve used Charlys motors for an auto to manual conversion and would use them again. I’ve also heard Chapman’s isn’t too bad.

Your best bet would be to meet these work shops, have a chat, go from there.

Chapman & Chapman in Brisbane and Gavin Wood at the Gold Coast are the only people I would trust with any high performance import if you want the work done to the highest possible standard.

Just expect to pay about double or triple what your local commonwhore mechanic up the street

would charge. And expect about 10x better quality work.

have to agree with you 100%

i were in there asking questions and he was trying to sell a 100 hp nos kit to a nobrainer vs commodore owner.

he stated that he would never have to think about any better internals and if he could afford it he could run it all day every day.

the commodore owner piped up and said hed spoken to other shops saying that he should have it chipped better internals and all the rest .

the sub guy just said "piss off what a load of shit"

i then left with no word apart from sniggling at the conversation.

also said the more nos he used the better price hed give to him ;)

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
