Well this friday im going to calder for the 1st time to test my car down the 1/4

Here are my setup:

14psi

Full 3" Straight through exhaust

GCG Highflow turbo

FMIC

Bosch pump

Dunlop sp 9000's 255 rear , 235 front

Rock hard height/dampening adjustable coilovers (dont know wat brand)

and im running a chipped ecu at 14psi, not sure what rwkw it has.

My problem is, on stock boost i can launch fine and quick with only "axle tramp" feels like its bunny hopping in 2nd then i regain traction,

Once i boosted it to 14psi i try to launch, pop the clutch at 3000rpm 1st gear is all wheel spin, 2nd gear is all wheel spin, 1/2 of 3rd gear is all wheel spin.

I realise now i have to slip my clutch till i feel complete traction, however im not sure what the correct launching RPM is. Is their anyway i can pop the clutch and still gain traction?

On a closed road at my farm i dragged my workmates stock wrx. He blew me away at the start as i was wheel spinning till i hit 3rd, then i caught up neck and neck just before the 1/4 ended, i cant do this at calder...any advice? Is my suspension too hard? Or should i simply slip the clutch ... its too hard to practice by myself as i cant test against another car and im back in the city.

Oh and when i did a granny launch like a normal start, he still; blew me away at the start and then in 2nd i was axle tramping again! like bunny hopping/wheel spinning...i cant stop it, 3rd gear is my strongest gear as i get full traction and the 14psi makes up for my lost wheel spinning time...but by then the 1/4 is over

Any advice would be much appreciated, so i can prepare for friday night :):)

Ide say alot of its your suspension/camber settings

get these in order and youll be able to put all the power to the ground

also, running a gcg hiflow at 1bar will be somewhere around 240rwkw, have u still got standard injectors? and if you havent got any dyno tuning done then your dis-advantaging yourself

Cheers for the replies, drag radials? i can get my hands on a set of mickey thompsons, well the guy at work said his mate runs a tyre business and hell lend me mickey thompsons, ive never heard of them in my life? are they drag radials?

I have also ordered a set of pineapples to be installed on friday, as i read in previous threads they reduce axel tramp

I still have standard injectors, and i did have a dyno tune when i had the stock fuel pump and the tuner entered in values for my High setting and Low setting but said he couldnt continue cause my stock fuel pump was weak and dying,

when i got my bosch fuel pump installed i ran the high setting and boost holds at 14.7 Psi or just under? It doesnt feel laggy and the spool is mega loud...am i running too much psi? i go through a whole tank of fuel in no time...its ****ed :)

I had severe axel tramp the same as what you are talking about.

I got some alloy rear subframe bushes (metal versions of the poly pineapples from whiteline) and it was a WORLD of difference. For ~$100 you will be very surprised the difference that they will make, especially for launching.

I installed them myself, all you need is a jack etc. and around an hour - there are HOWTO's on the web and other places.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
