Are there any more detailed specs on the R34 and R33 N1 spec engines? e.g pistons, cams, A:F ration, cam lift and duration, redline, basically how much power they can handle on stock internals (safely), and stuff like that.

Can anyone please help? Because sofar im just getting basic specs and dimensions that aren't getting me anywhere quickly

From what I have been able to find the N1 engines have the following:

N1 block

N1 pistons and rings

N1 rods

N1 oil pump

N1 water pump

N1 bearings

The pistons are not forged but they use 1.3 mm rings instead of 1.5 mm

With the cams, the lift and duration is the same for all factory RB26 engines. But the lobe center angle is different in the R33N1/R34/R34N1. The duration is 240 IN / 236EX and lift is 8.58 IN / 8.28 EX.

As for what power they can handle, an example is the mines R34 GTR that until recently was using a stock bottom end and making 630hp.

I hope that helps.

kinda, are the internals forged at all or...?

Im trying to get a rough guage of the strength etc, and whether an upgrade to aftermarket forged sets like HKS or JUN forged pistons would be worth while etc

The pistons are not forged, but the rods are.

Consider that they are usually sold with N1 turbos, so in theory they should be rated to handle the max power you can get from N1 turbos.

I would say if you want more than 350rwkw it would be a good idea to get forged pistons and at least shot peened rods.

The N1 bocks are good for huge power and don't have the cracking problems that the R32 blocks can have.

so the rods are definately forged?

Either way, if i land an N1 engine, the pistons are making way for a forged set, high power or no high power (if the N1 pistons aren't forged), for reliability's sake

yea i found a place where you can pick up N1 blocks for a decent price, so i guess i should start from there rather than a full N1 engine.

So tell me, would it be possible to bolt an N1 block onto an R34 GT-R head, and get all the "performance gains" you get out of an R34 RB26 with the minimal mods?

If i get around to it, i'll be interested in slowly working my way up. Slowly modding up by getting things than can be used in high power applications but also add the nice power gains early on, e.g intercooler, exhaust, pod filters, ECU, cam gears etc

    • Mixing things up - installed some leather recaros to match the leather seat covered rear seats. Interior looks pretty schmick now except for some slight wear on the steering wheel which I will monitor and address if it becomes worse or actually noticeable!

Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
