ok this is the problem

the passenger door wont lock. i use the central locking the latch moves on the inside of the door so it looks like it has locked but you can still open the door. tried locking the inside by hand and closing door but you can till open it from outside as if it wasnt locked.

also tried closing the door and locking it from the outside with the key, it feel like it has turned far enough to lock the doot but it wont lock.

removed the trim from the door and played with the lock mecahanism, everything seems to be moving like it should but it just wont lock

any ideas what is casuing this and how i should go about fixing it?

thinking of taking the mechanisim out of the door to check in out and try and clean it but they way the rods are connected to it will make this a problem.

btw this is on a 32 gts-t

any advice would be much appreciated

took the whole mechanisim out today and it all seem to be in order with no obvious faults. its a sealed unit so i cannot really open it up with any hope of puting it back together in working order. think my best option is try and source a repalcement from somewhere

I had a similar problem with the passenger door lock on my R32 GTR. The mechanism looked normal, but close inspection showed that it had 'split apart' a few mm near where the lock rods attached. This had allowed some of the internal mechanism to come adrift and of course it didn't work properly.

New mechanisms are still available through Nissan, but have to be ordered from Japan (2 week wait) and are $200+. I ended up sourcing a good secondhand one from an SAU member.

LINXUS40 i have exactly the same problem, it closes all but 2mm from locking on my 32 gts-t...... i took mine apart also and there is nothing obvious, i changed nothing then put it back together and it worked for about 24hrs before it shit itslef again.......

dont know what to do bout it???

Yep, same here. I've had it for about a year. The solenoid closes down, but not enough to completely lock the door - normal wear and tear I was told. The only solution I've been told is to replace the unit and, you don't have to use the OEM item. As long as the solenoid works on the same electrical configuration she'll be sweet.

My Passenger lock has been doing strange things lately....When i turn off the engine, Both doors should unlock right?.......LAtely its been very fussy somes times it does, but most times it doesn't...otherwise it works 100% OK, the button in the arm rest works, as well as the alarm/mobiliser remote......it seems very strange??

Hope no one minds me dragging up an old thread...

My R32GTR drivers door started exhibiting the same symptoms as your passenger door linxus40, so I pulled off the door trim for a look. Initially there was no obvious cause, so I removed the latch assembly and discovered that one of the black plastic clips that hold the white plastic cover in place was broken and the cover had partially separated from the body of the latch. On closer inspection this clip appeared to be a pivot point for part of the mechanism, and this was mis-aligned which was the root cause of the problem.

Now my question is what is availability like and how much should I be paying for a replacement latch, found one (used) on ebay (in Australia) for $39 plus postage, which seems pretty reasonable, but as we all know used parts are a lucky dip, might last 10 minutes or 10 years.

Also I am wondering if this is a common problem, anyone else had this?

I have the same problem. If anyone finds a solution or needs some teamwork just say so. Can't get to the lock properly, called up automotive locksmith but never got to the point where I got it inspected. They said it could possibly be the central locking system.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
