NJ: Get your necked checked out (if you haven't already).  I have heard of far too many cases where people have a sore neck, that is then "better" a day or two latter, only to later find they have serious damage to the top of the spine.

UPDATE. This morning I went into smash repairers and he said he couldnt quote it without taking it apart and seeing what exhactly was bent. So I have to leave it there one day just for a quote. But, he said first estimate would be around 5K. You wouldnt pick it from looking at it.

So yeah, I just want to get the quote done for insurance and then get a good panel shop to fix it *properly*..

Only if its a financial writeoff. If its a statutory writeoff -- which it may well be if the speeds noted in this thread are correct -- then it can't be repaired (although you can still buy the wreck for parts).

70km/h thats fair fast, methinks its would have been more damage just because u didnt hear skidding doesnt mean he wasnt on the brakes, the quickest way to brake is not to lock the wheels, and maybe this guy knew that.

Anyway, as I had already established. I had already taken off so even if he was travelling at 70 km/h the closing speed would have been about 60km/h. It take midnight's point that he may have braked without screeching, but if you saw how much time he had to react, I dont think that would be likely, you dont really have time to brake like an race driver when you have 5m to react and stop. Either way it seems he may have slowed a bit..

Reason he only had 5m was a car was in front of him travelling very quick nearly did the same but changed lanes and misssed me at the last second but guy that hit me said he was looking down and didnt notice what had happened until he had pretty much hit me. I dont know the distance between them but the other car was only just level with the car in front when the crunch happened, so I guess he would have only had a couple of car lengths to stop in.

BUT, can I please gently steer the discussion back to the main reason for my post and that was to find out if anyone had experiences with any of the NRMA smash repairers that I have been recommended to and see if I could get some ideas of who to use..

We don't know, but we can take VERY educated guesses because of our previous experiences, and seeing way too many photos of accidents on forums...

A few years ago, I was driving my mother's Mercedes CLK whilst my Skyline was getting a new clutch. A taxi driver decided that it was a good idea to run a red light across William St and ended up t-boning me right in the driver's side door. He hit me with such force that I was sent flying 90 degrees to the direction I was previously travelling, and hit a traffic light 10m away with enough force to completely bend it in half and sending it downwards crushing a Lancer waiting at the intersection. Before I could recover my breath from getting winded by airbags galore, I was surrounded by a whole platoon of plain clothes police cordoning off the middle of William St, 2 ambulances from St Vincents and 2 fire engines from God knows where. They were all literally there within 2-3 minutes of the accident. In between gasps of air, I was extremely impressed with how efficient the police officers were at blocking off the intersection, and how quickly emergency crew were on the scene. I was rushed to hospital and went straight to Emergency to check to spinal injury and whatnot.

He was travelling at 60km/h through the red light, and he managed to write off a $120,000 Mercedes CLK and send me to hospital.

You think you got hit at 60km/h and got away with $5000 damage? Experience tells me otherwise :) I know that it probably felt like he hit you at 100km/h, but from what you've told us, it was probably quite a slow hit... More like 15-20km/h which is still hard enough to feel like a Mack truck and do quite a bit of damage.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
