For some reason I thought these babies were in Aus for a while. Only when I saw 2 within the last week I relaised that I haven't seen them before. Now that just makes a whole load of sense :)

Anyway, I saw a silver one in Castle Hill and a blue one in Dural. I must say they look quite mean, definately different from your run of the mill lancer. The front grill really shows off that itercooler, once you see the wing and wheels you defintely know its an EVO.

The thread kinda belongs in the NSW section, but I thought i post it here to involve members from other states in the discussion.

There were 100 brought into the country by Mitsubishi and theres apparantly another 100 coming in this year. We get the crappy Maltese version though with less power, 5 speed box instead of the 6 speed and the indicators on the wrong side!!!!! :) (its euro-spec, indicators on the left side of the steering column and wipers on the right side)

That's right, i remember heaing about hte Maltese spec. According to a guy at work, who is neighbour to Subaru CEO, Subaru did everything they could to stll Mitsubishi from bringing the EVO's in. Worked with 8, but 9 is going to be full volume. About time STi got thrown from the turbo pedestall in Australia.

its only mildy detuned for our under 100RON fuel, but still is very, very quick.

i'd spend the extra 5K on an evo over the sti, but thats just me as i have always had a soft spot for the evo's.

i dont like the the indicator and wipers on opposite sides but hey i'll get used to it if i needed too.

hey EVO is the better performing car but at a price tag of $90K and upwards and $25K more than the top STI you better damn expect its a better performing car.

Drop $25K of the right mods into an STI and i'd be very interested in the result.

90K for evo 8? your joking, more like 61 or 62k

My mate has one and yeah the wipers are a small problem i would take if i was givin the car by my parents. I dont know about other evos but my mates sounds like a wimpy thing u would think it was an excel with an exhaust behind u.

But on the other hand when u see it go u know it has got some balls. Has anyone taking one on yet? on private own highway of course

i couldnt give a damn if anyone thought they sound wimpy because i know it aint wimpy. Unbelievably awesome grip and when it begins to come on boost its like being shot out of a gun.

By the way how do you mean wimpy, when off boost? coming onto boost? at full boost? because they evo's sound great especially on the last two things

Oh and JXL i dont think any of the evo's were ever over 90K, weren't they around 75-80K before the price was dropped in order to say look out sti.

GTR Cam on here has an Evo 8...and a R33 GTR V Spec...the one that was in the latest HPI on the left hand side, the GTR that is. His Evo is the upspec one with the carbon bits and black leather interior to match the black outside...

They are a sweet care, Maltese version or not...which is crap by the way, we just get the European Spec compared to the US and Jap Spec...there are only 3 variations.

And I have to say that it still is one of the most exciting cars I have driven to date. 4 cyl twin scroll turbo pumping out 15-16psi standard with absolutely faultless handling...

I would actually choose one over a GTR...

I saw a blue one here in the US last night and have also seen a white one that I actually got a look inside. They have everything the same as the Eurospec and obviously the indicators on the left...

I can't wait to get back to oz and actually see some performance cars...had enough of hondas with big cannons or holes in mufflers...

Didn't see them drop the price here in Perth but my friend did buy a couple years back a brand new from Skippers Mitsubishi EVO 6 TOmmy Makkinen edition and it was 90K drive away. so they have been sold before at ridiculour prices so the older buyers must be so pissed that the new one is going for 20K less.

ok, was this tommy makkinen edition evo 6 a limited edition by any chance because i think it would have been because the evo 6 was about 75-80k i remember that one. Your mates car proabably got given a few more features and would have higher resale value now.

For example look at the wrp10 wrx now for sale. It celebrating 10 yrs of the rex and is limited edition, has a couple extra features and tweaks hence is priced 8-9K more than the normal wrx.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
