I was wondering if anyone here has done a gearbox rebuild for their RB (30 box in this case) and how hard it was to put new set of bearings thru it and maybe some syncro rings while im at it..

Any help/tips/warnings/tales-of-failed-home-rebuilds-to-put-me-off/prices-for-a-pro would be great!

Regards,

Brent.

Sorry to hijack, but may be helpful....

Has anyone got the part numbers for the main bearings for an r33 (push clutch- earlier?) I wanna buy the bearings from cbc....

Or any other boxes for that matter would be helpful to anyone....maybe syncros and seals etc?

I have been in touch with nissan .. theres about $300 worth of main bearings in there, thats with out pin rollers.

Part number for the two main drive bearings are

NI-32203-V5201

NI-32203-14360

and there are 4 counter Shaft bearings aswell, if you need those PM me.

Brent.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this is for an RB30E gearbox (MF5)

Gearbox bearings for RB20DET/RB30E gearbox are available from CBC and will be in the region of $150, and most likely less (these gearboxes are virtually identical). Just ask them to look up R31 Skyline gearbox - they have catalogues that will list them. Last time I looked there was 3 countershaft and 3 mainshaft bearings.

I can dig out the aftermarket PN's for R32/R33 GTR gearbox if there's any interest.

Does anyone know the designations of the RB gear boxes, and the differences.

I am currently trying to work out if there is a difference between the RB20DET box, and the NA RB30E box.

Bearings are identical between the two, AFAIC, but R32 GTSt gearbox has double synchros on 2nd and 3rd gears - RB30E type uses single synchro on all gears. There are also some gear selector mechanism design differences.

I have recently had mine done syncros, bearings, and clutch. NOT cheap to do. This was for and rb25 5speed for a $1000 extra could buy a 6speed. Any way if 4th is stuffed then you have to replace the hole shaft as the 4th is pressed on and will be wrecked it removed

excellent :P (32GTR box would be the same as the gtst for bearings i assume?)

Do you remember if they had the r33 gtst box on file? I need the main bearings...my syncros are fine.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
