Just thought i share them to everyone...had my 1st defect notice to my car...actually 3 of them which really suck..!

was driving along after dropping my GF to work decided to take the long way so i could have a nice cruize...BAD IDEA. --> cop car heading the opposite road gave my the head light flash and yelled " pull over mate". -- so i did,. they did a u turn and told me to park the car properly... i told them.." err,..its a yellow line here i dont think i can park here at all "-- but they said its OK cause they told me so. ( right.. ) since i couldn't get the proper parking space and neither they...they asked me to follow them which lead me to this car park where all other cars were being done for... ( like around 10ish and they just kept coming ) just found out that they are the so called " Traffic Task Force " and they're giving out defect notice to every done up cars.

to make it short --> got done up for :

Exhause noise --> $150 + 1 point

Tyres 2mm too wide --> $75 + 1 point

Spare Battery in the boot not secured --> $45 no point taken

apparently illegal to have the battery in the boot ? but i told them its factory but they explained unless its in a sealed box to prevent gasses coming out.

also i have this spare battery in the boot which was just sitting there from 3 nights ago when a friend borrowed it for his car...i just didn't bother taking it out but apparently not safe having them there coz they might explode when they tossed around.--> fair enough.

other things to be done : --> gave me 5 weeks to do them

Exhause not higher than 90 db. ( must be tested with certificate )

eye lids to be taken off

tint too dark

tyres must be the proper size

air filter to be thighten up

boost controler in cabin to be taken out

boost gauge on A pillar to be taken out

Battery to be sealed.

need to take the car down the station for another check within 5 weeks.

So yeah...that's the story..now i just need to save up to pay the fines and fix everything up.

Anyone knows how to get the exhause a little quietter ? i dont wanna change my set up..maybe resornator or silencer maybe ? any ones help / ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Like it is all the law (tho I would be just double checking that tyre one) but its pretty harsh, I mean its really not dangerous having 2mm too wide tyres unless its a really poor set up.

Not much you can do tho.

it's actually not a defect having 2mm wider tyres.. you are allowed to fit what you like as long as its 2" less than the widest tyre available for that model.

Do you mean 2cm wider diameter?

I belive there is a law for the width as well, but I really cant remember.

Its all state laws tho, so what you get away with here, you go down south, you get done for etc. Or at least other states inforce some laws more than others.

just checking the "QLD guide to modifications" (751kb).. in which it states what you are allowed to do with tyres..

The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size

but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by more

than +15 mm or -26 mm.

These limits have been set for a number of reasons. Varying

the overall diameter of tyres affects ground clearance, centre

of gravity, brake effectiveness, steering geometry,

performance and speedometer accuracy.

Generally, to meet these limits, 60 series tyres are fitted to rims

with a diameter increase of 26 mm larger than standard and

50 series tyres are fitted to rims with a diameter 50 mm

larger than standard.

and..

The maximum tyre width must not be more than 1.3 times wider

than the vehicle manufacturer’s widest optional tyre. However, in

the case of off-road passenger vehicles fitted with front and rear

beam axles, the maximum tyre width must not be more than

1.5 times larger than the manufacturer’s widest optional tyre.

was your boost gauge in white cup or a black one? i thought it was still legal to have it in a black one cause its not reflective? is your boost controller an elctronic one? where else will you put it? i want to make my car legal thats all, cause they are cracking down on it all heaps

Id be questioning the ebc, whats the deal there, id be asking for them to show you the legislation. thats  :bs!:

He said boost controller dude. So if it was a t peice inside the car...

Nice one predator for finding the width thingy.

BTW if it was 2mm too much rolling diameter, surely you would be temepted to be smart and go "ok, be back in two secs"... and do a big skid :) ... on a private road...

i know he said boost controller but really if it was just a t piece or whatever do you think the police would have seen it?? Anyway ive never had anything but ebc's so i wouldnt really know to much about cheaper boost controllers. (like what crumb units they may or may not have inside the cabin)

I was asked to remove my ebc once whilst recieving a speeding ticket and after ringing transport they said it was ok so i didnt do anything about it. Rang the police station left a message for the officer to call me back but he never did.

Sometimes(read: too often) the police think they can make any old shit up, i mean if you are breaking a law shouldnt it be there in the legislation some where....? And shouldnt they be able to show it to you if you ask?

hey predator, where did you get that guide? i want one...

Here you can find it.

If everybody downloaded one of them, printed it out, and carried one around in case they get pulled over, could save some headaches.

beat me too it! Sucks to have a highly modified car with wide tyres....of course its much safer to have skinny tyres that cant handle the power!! *looks to the millineum motorsports supra* 335's on a supra wonder if thats more than 1.3times the manufacturers width? :)

Ok, I just want to see how people interpret this...

"vehicle manufacturer’s widest optional tyre"

Now would that mean the manufacturer... as in hypothetically... if nissan released a car with 335s we could go wider legally?

Or if say the vehicle came with 155s then im only allowed my 1.3x bigger?

Its a open a bit to different interpretation Id say.

laws always open to interpretation but if it went to court i would assume it would be found that the meaning is the "widest optional tyre" for that vehicle, not any vehicle nissan makes. And yes if a vehicle came with 155's and that was the widest optional tyre I would assume that you can only make your tires 1.3tims wider. Surely though there is a way to get wider tyres approved by way of mod plate or something..Who knows the law is screwed when it comes to cars..u can get done for anything because what the law states and what the police enforce are two totally different things.

I also would like to know about this as my zoorst is quite loud too.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
