hey jus in need of some help dont know what to do....

basically i took of my brake callipers to spray them red (yes i know rice haha, they look pretty good but) and yeah took the wheel off (was doing front left wheel) and unscrewed evrything the calliper was attatched too. and wen the callipers split into its 2 peices, all the brake fluid just started leaking out.. so i dun kno much about brakes we jus assumed u can jus put it back in so we jus tinned it LOL.. and yeah so we jus let the brake fluid run and wen it was done sprayed the calliper and yeah put everyfing back on. so yeah i turned on the car and realised i had no brakes after pumping the pedal for ages... and rememberd i had no brake fluid so i was gna put the fluid we tinned bak in, but my mate threw it away already... so i went petrol station and the only brake fluid they had was DOT 4.. on the cap it says to use DOT 3, does that really make a difference?... so i jus opened the cap and refilled it to just about over half way.... and yeah probaly drove for abit 5-10min or so.. and the brakes started to come back and now the brakes respond quicker... then i talked to my mates dad and he was telling me soemthing about bleeding the brake lines... so are my brakes gone cuz i dont think i done that bleeding stuff... if anyone has a guide on how to do it properly cud they please steer me to the right direction? cuz im abit packing it one day my brakes wont work. thanks!!

Dot 5.1 brake fluid is what you should be using, as its better than the dot 4 and obiviously dot 3.

If you undid the fluid line and let air into the system then you need to get them bleed as there will be air in ur lines and ur brake wont be working 100%.

Oh and the main thing, FFS use paragraphs in ur posts as its a real bitch to read what you wrote.

lol...yeh paragraphs would be nice.

After reading that I'm hoping you didn't spray the spot where the two parts of the caliper

joined (middle). You didn't need to take every part of the caliper apart, just use masking

tape.

You also definitely need to bleed them now as inasnt said. Do you know how to do that?

Dont stuff around with brakes if you dont know what you are doing .

Take it to a brake specialist and tell them to check the brakes .

If you have air in the brakes it doesn't matter what fluid you got in there they are not going to work . The will only work after you pump them several times , the first time you press the pedal it will go to the floor .

You have to bleed the whole system and there is no point doing it yourself .

my god thats crazy... why didnt you just spray the calipers on there if you didnt know what you were doing?? you just put a plastic bag around the disc and around the suspension and away you go.

bleeding brakes is not hard by the way, but if you've pulled 4 pistons calipers apart you should replace the o-rings inside.

there would be heaps of threads on bleeding brakes so try a search.

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the 2025 build re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I quite rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent. 
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
