Hi!

Just got my 1st Skyline yesterday. Just want to ask some basic questions?

1. How do I make the dash lights brighter? is there a knob somewhere?

2. My horn doesnt seem to work, how do I rewire it?

3. The off button near the A/C doesnt want to work. How can I turn off the fan that is turned on for power 1?

4. Whats the best way to clean the car? Buff it? or what cleaning solution/wash powder?

Thanks Guys!

1. There should be a non-descript knob somewhere, it's usually a dick smith looking thing and it could be anywhere because it's put in for compliance and not factory.

2. Take off your steering wheel and re-connect it. Should be pretty obvious (1 positive wire, touch it (ie. ground it) to the steering wheel and it should go beep. If it's fallen off you should just be able to re-connect. If it won't beep when you're grounding it and it's the right wire then you might wanna test the actual horn.

3. I think that's climate control so to turn it off try hitting manual? Then the fan (if there is one I don't know about r33 sorry).

4. If you look in the tutorial section of this thread there's an excellent how-to for washing and buffing and polishing your baby.

Take care.

If the off button is broken you cant stop the fan, as long as the other buttons work ok you can still use it in auto or manual modes. You will still be able to switch on & off the a/c, fan speed, vent control, heat/cooling and manual/auto modes. Mine broke a couple of months ago annoying at first but aslong as all the rest of it still functions right you can get used to it.

The only way to stop the fan is with the off button. You can turn the air conditioning off and moderate the temperature and fan speed (1, 2, 3 or 4) but there is no 0 speed for the fan.

I'm not sure if the fan resets to off when you turn the car off and my 33's at the shop atm so I can't test it but this might be the only way. If it doesn't reset, then you're going to have to deal with it or get and auto electrician to have a poke. An alternative would be to rig up your own switch to the fan which just cuts it power (tap into the earth wire). You could get a mechanic to do this for you if you don't want to try it yourself.

Glad you like the car, when you get the chance drive it over and we can tinker with it. I have a spare Streering wheel to try on it.

Does the relays in the engine bay click when you push the button?

That sounds even more backwards than the test we have for cars 10 years or newer called the ESVA, right fools down at the testing stations, you know the type, got bullied at school so takes it out on every one else now... Very annoying people!

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
