Hi Guys,

I have asked this question within other threads but have not got any replies, so I thought I would open it up to the wider community to see what response I get.

Does the R33 GTS-t have any camber adjustment from the factory? I have lowered the car and now have about 2degs of negative camber, causing the insides of my expensive tyres to wear faster, no good for my wallet.

The other question I have is whether when drag racing anyone bothers to have the camber wound back to neutral, to keep more rubber on the road, or am I worrying too much?

Yeah I've just had it done, there is very little in the way of camber adjustment, probably only 3/4 of a degree, so I may need a camber kit for the back if it's possible.

And yes you were right it was the toe in that was causing the wear on the rear tyres. Hopefully now I will get better traction for the drags, and reduce tyre wear. Hey wait.. aren't those two things mutually exclusive.

dude,

You need adjustable top control arms (for d' camber) front, they go for around $500. Rear camber kit (bunch of different bushes and sleaves) bout $100.

While your at it you could do the adjustable radius rods for a bit of extra camber, for turn in and less nose dive under brakes.

Thanks for that, I knew somebody had to know about it. I take it I can get this sort of stuff through Whiteline? I was only thinking about doing the back, but if I want to race it then I probably should do it all?

Thanks, I think after this Wednesday I'll start off with the pineapples everyone is raving about and then start to improve the overall handling. In general I want the car for hard cornering and race tracks, but I'd like the occasionaly drag race. Is it possible to have both of these setups?

Talking of suspension set-ups here's my compromise btw straight-line drag grip, all round driving & cost!

Rear camber - less than -0.5 using a Whiteline camber kit + the factory adjustment. From the factory you get -/+0.75 of adjustment. The Whiteline c/kits allow an additional -/+1.5 (via 2 kits) I only needed 1.

Front camber - -1.2

Whiteline rear subframe align/lock kit

Whiteline blade adjustable sway bars front & rear

Kings "low" springs (30mm lower than stock)

Standard shocks - I'd like to upgrade these but it's not on the list of priorities, in fact the shocks aren't too bad! Even the suspension workshop that I had do one of my alignments commented that my standard suspension components all appeared to be in good condition! Maybe those low kms are legit'!? Doubt it :D The standard shocks "should" also help with weight transfer upon launching.

All of the above changes have had some positive effect on my cars handling, mostly straight line grip!

BUT........ Without a doubt the biggest improvement to rear grip levels was fitting top quality tyres!

GTS-t VSPEC - In answer to your last question (in your first post) I don't so much as dial out the neg' camber but set my rear camber fairly neutral all the time. This way both rear grip & tyre life is maximised :P

Race track suspension? I haven’t got a clue in that dept’ ;)

Thanks for all the info. I currently have coilovers, which dropped my ride height, and at maximum factory adjustment the camber is still -1.3deg on the back, I'd prefer it to be neutral. I'll take what you said onboard, and hopefully when I have some more money I can start to get serious with the suspension and handling.

GTS-t VSPEC,

-1.3 rear camber is about the same I had prior to the Whiteline kit (after lowering 30mm).

Lowering more than ~30mm without a camber kit ='s uneven tyre wear.

The Whiteline camber kits are cheap so it's easy fixed :(

Looking @ the level of engine modifications your car has/will have I'd be aiming for minimal r/camber! Unless you want plenty of :burnout: :D

I think we dropped the height by 25mm or so, and are on the limit of the factory camber adjustment. The camber kit sounds the go, I just wanted the neutral camber to get more grip for drag racing.

I definately don't want :burnout: as I have expensive tyres normally.

Hay can you do me a big favour and measure the distance between the middle of your wheel (front and rear) and the lip of the top of the guard.

I'm changing the suspension set up on mine soonish and need to know what the factory height is. I know that yours is 30mm lower than factory it'll give me a good idea.

Front - ~340mm

Rear - ~332mm

    • Yeah and hence my ghetto way of slamming the brakes, get the ABS to cycle, rebleed seems to be a sensible workaround.
    • Hey! Happy to help. Nothing inherently wrong with the adapter, it's more so with Brett Collins himself. He gave me a lot of incorrect information when I was in contact with him and was extremely rude when I challenged him. He stated I could not use any aftermarket twin plate clutches except for his own, not to use the dush shield, bla bla bla and it was all BS.  Collins stated to cut roughly 14mm's off the housing, I took off 15mm to make room for the dust shield. I would confirm with whatever adapter manufacturer you're using. 
    • There's plenty of OEM steering arms that are bolted on. Not in the same fashion/orientation as that one, to be sure, but still. Examples of what I'm thinking of would use holes like the ones that have the downward facing studs on the GTR uprights (down the bottom end, under the driveshaft opening, near the lower balljoint) and bolt a steering arm on using only 2 bolts that would be somewhat similarly in shear as these you're complainig about. I reckon old Holdens did that, and I've never seen a broken one of those.
    • Let's be honest, most of the people designing parts like the above, aren't engineers. Sometimes they come from disciplines that gives them more qualitative feel for design than quantitive, however, plenty of them have just picked up a license to Fusion and started making things. And that's the honest part about the majority of these guys making parts like that, they don't have huge R&D teams and heaps of time or experience working out the numbers on it. Shit, most smaller teams that do have real engineers still roll with "yeah, it should be okay, and does the job, let's make them and just see"...   The smaller guys like KiwiCNC, aren't the likes of Bosch etc with proper engineering procedures, and oversights, and sign off. As such, it's why they can produce a product to market a lot quicker, but it always comes back to, question it all.   I'm still not a fan of that bolt on piece. Why not just machine it all in one go? With the right design it's possible. The only reason I can see is if they want different heights/length for the tie rod to bolt to. And if they have the cncs themselves,they can easily offer that exact feature, and just machine it all in one go.
