we have a Datsun 240k 2 door in immac. cond. We are looking to convert it into a GTR look-alike. We are thinking an rb20de or rb25de as we would like to keep it atmo but with multi throttle bodies and some extractors to give it that great n/a sound. Question is are the parts required avail. and at what cost? Whats involved in the engine swap? Should we go turbo? Transmission options? And what are our options on the suspension/braking side of things? Any help would be much appreciated.

i just cant get the sound of the n/a r31 at tsukuba out of my head...sounded absolutely awesome. But the turbo route will give me more power for my $$. A tough decision pete, thanks for the offer of help as i will take you up on that!

Absolutley! Huge fan of multiple throttle bodies on N/A engines, they sound so cool. My cousine has a honda integra running quad throtles and it is awsome to ride in. I am considering an rb ** N/A engine conversion to my MR 30, either that or multiple throttles on my L24, as my cousine is a machineist, he built the whole induction for his integra and has offered to do mine, but will the RB 25 make reasonable N/A power? Im not after neck braking acceleration, more a reliable, smooth and reasonably quick package that sounds wicked at high revs!

cheers,

chris

2rismo gave me an idea...build an n/a rb24...rev it to 9000rpm

Hi Stacey,

welcome to the C110 club!

Myself and Prank are looking at doing the exact same thing, a replica C110 GTR with RB20DET (or 3L).

Unfortunately GTR parts are very rare and super super expensive.. but keep your eyes on the japanese yahoo auctions..

differences...

external:

Front Grill (can fetch anywhere up to $800 at auction)

Skyline badges (c210 ones are similar), GT badges (R32/33 ones are similar) and GT-R badges (smaller than R32 ones)

Front mirrors (australia spec cars had them on the door)

Front and rear fenders (fibreglass flaire copies are available)

Rear light cluster (with 2x red outer lenses, rather than the australian 1xred, 1 white)

S20 engine (extremely rare!)

and and crappy black steel wheels :) (seriously!)

not sure if the diff and brakes etc were the same or upgraded

interior

Brushed aluminimum dashboard

GT badges on the doors

Skyline badges on dash, rather than datsun

Seats are similar to Aus spec i think

that is most of what i know of... i am sure there are ppl lurking here that can fill in the gaps

we are trying to keep a record of our build up, so you might be interested in having a look www.project240k.com, have a look especially at the gallery.

we are looking at putting an RB20DET (Nics) engine and gearbox in ours, R31 rear brake conversion for the rear, and 300ZX brakes on the front (we currently have a hybrid hilux/accord setup on the front). The Diff we are going to upgrade to an R200 from a 260Z as well, though at the moment we are going to keep unijoints rather than converting to CV's (until they break that is). Fuel system will be 1xR32 GTR pump from a surge tank, being fed by a VL fuel pump.. um.. what else...

unfortunately not much work has been done to the car of late, our other "charity rally car" has taken precedence at the moment, hopefully we will get that one to the NSW S&S this year..

also, let us know if your getting any custom work done (engine mounts etc..), we may be able to help each other out :(

From what i have read/heard, to fit an rb and 5 speed into a car originally fitted with an Lseries, all you have to do is slot the drivers side of the engine xmember where the mount bolt in. 10mm i think it was.

I'm assuming the tailshaft will need to be custom, but that is the case with 99.9% of conversions anyway.

A guy on here (username Prince) has an rb20 with webers on it, he would definatley be of some help. he still runs the factory computer.

tuff Lseries with multi throttles... home built L21 in 3rd gear.

Thanks for the help guys...will keep you posted on what we come up with. Would love to keep it n/a to keep that old school theme all round.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
