Hey guys,

Did a search for "waterless car wash", "autoshine", etc... and couldn't find a thread on it. So I thought I'd start a new one.

Has anyone actually used this waterless carwash stuff? Is it any good? Does it scratch?

I can't see how it doesn't scratch, but I found a site which actually states that water washing your car causes more swirl marks than washing with this stuff.

I'm referring to Autoshine.

Here's a quote:

Why does washing your car with water scratch your paint?

When you spray your car with water, you remove the majority of visible dirt and grime, but leave behind a thin layer of dirt on the surface. When you rub a chamois or sponge over your car’s paint, you grind the remaining dirt into the paint, thus creating what is called “feather scratches”.

Why doesn't Autoshine Liquid Dry Wash scratch the paint when applied over a moderately dirty car?

Autoshine Waterless Dry Car Wash contains special polymers and lubricating agents, as well as the finest carnauba wax to ensure it does not scratch anything. When sprayed over dirt and grime, the emulsifying agents encapsulate the dirt, and create a protective barrier. This is why you can wipe off the dirt without scratching or streaking your painted surfaces.

So basically it won't scratch. I doubt this though.

I'm so anal about how I wash my car. Hell I use 2 sponges (one for the car, one for the wheels), and 2 chamois (one for the panels, one for all the other bits - door jams, engine bay, wheels, etc).

Has anyone this waterless car wash stuff?

hey mate.... ive heard that meguairs quick detailer works well, never used it though as i live in the country and my car gets hell dirty all the time. im constantly washing it.

like you, i use 2 meguiars lambswool mitts, 2 chamois, and a whole heap of different meguiars products. i change to a new wash mit every month.

Hey dude :)

I've got Quick Detailer, and use all the Meguiar's stuff too (gotta love the 3 step). But apparently this stuff is different to Quick Detailer. This stuff "foams" when you spray it on which "encapsulates" the dirt so you can wipe it off...after which you're supposed to buff with a clean cloth. :

Sounds a bit iffy to me.

yeah i'm a meguiar's quick detailer user myself...

i usually use it in between washes when my car gets a lil dusty, day after it rains, etc...basically in between washes when i'm not happy with the state of the paintwork. i've got a black car too so i need to wash it once every week without fail.

quick detailer is good stuff...very slippery when sprayed on so scratching is unlikely. smells awesome to :(

but i wouldn't be using waterless wash products as the only cleaning method personally - just a supplement...

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
