I have a friend, that in his infinite wisdom, decided to buy a 34 GTR shell.

Not too sure what is left in the car but no engine, no gearbox, no interior (seat/trim/dashboard/etc)

He is 17, so he has another 3 years to build the thing but how much is it going to cost him?

I figured he could just pick up the parts of a half cut that other people did't want to help build.

I still believe it going to be cheaper to just buy a new one.

So how much to fix it up?

engine 6k for a 2nd hand stocker

gearbox (those getrags aren't cheap) 6k? 2nd hand

wheels 3k

MFD (lcd screen on dash) 2k

steering wheel 1k

seats etc.. 2k

headlights 2k

respray 4k?

diffs/suspension etc... 5k?

thats over 30k right there, very rough estimate

nahh no way will it end up cheaper, unless he gets 2nd hand parts of r33 gtr or r32 even , coz if u get all r34 stuff u'll be looking at over 30grand for parts and then theres the matter of labour and for such a project it wont come easy :D

    • @PranK to help you feel better, this is what happens when you run two of the big ones and have a heavy foot...
    • Nice, saves me ranting about how painful it is painting a roof with rattle cans lol.  Personally, I wouldn't chase the rust back any further. What happens if your 30cm deep into your roof and still going? This is why I was suggesting fiberglass, the holes are quite large but easy to patch with fibreglass. There will be a million youtube videos of people doing this shonky job you can check out for a visual.  Once the holes are patched with fibreglass, you can rebuild the corner with body filler (like the last guy did).  Indeed, its a shit go
    • Filler will set solid and water tight. If you need to, get in around the inside with silicon between the window and edge of the car, but only if that spot is leaking.
    • I have a decent compressor and spray gun. I haven't done anything this big but between it and the bonnet the paint currently is absolutely terrible and there's no chance I'd make it worse.  Ok so should I cut back the top flap to get to the end of the rust? The bottom bit looks bad but feels strong still, even with the holes.  Will filler seal the holes? Or should I put some silicon in them first?  Love your work guys, thanks. Can't tell you how bummed I am to have found this. Wish I'd never looked and I'd still be happy!
    • Yeah this can't be overstated, this job is crazy hard even for a professional.
