gexiaowen
i got this turbo smart manual boost controller which located under the bonnet (operates by turning clock wise and anti clockwise to adjust boost, 1 click for each psi) , was wondering if i turn off the boost using this device would it save me any petrol as there are less combustion?? i turned off today but however my after market boost gauge still shows it boosts 0.5 bar when i rev the engine does that mean it hasn't change anything?? but i'm show i turned the device to the minimum boost or no boost.. 51jay
Factory standard boost is around 0.5psi rising to about 0.7psi over about 5000rpm. Your Turbosmart controller will allow you to get more boost than standard, but if you turn it right off you will only revert to factory standard boost not nil boost Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/75939-a-way-of-saving-petrol/#findComment-1392612 Share on other sites
3R1K
if u turned it off, it will return to the stock boost which is 0.5 bar, you can't go lower than that because your actuator is holding at .5 bar minimum. It doesn't really make your fuel consumption better . Sumo
The only way you save petrol is to back off on the right hand pedal. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/75939-a-way-of-saving-petrol/#findComment-1392627 Share on other sites

Ronin 09
oh and I wouldn't rely on the fact that "one click is one PSI"... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/75939-a-way-of-saving-petrol/#findComment-1392829 Share on other sites
usuckpoo
Thats not stock boost. When u turn off any form of boost control/ bleed valve, the lowest boost it can go is the original wastegate setting which usually hovers around 5-6psi for most internal wastegate and this is determined by the stiffness of the diaphram spring. Boost is load dependant dude, combustion remains the same. If u want to really save fuel u can try cranking down the fuel pressure but its not really recommended.
