dudes,

i am getting an R32 GTR soon, with hopefully around 230 - 250rwkw. Now there are quite a few WRX STi's getting around my town (Mildura) and I wanted to know how I would go against one. Im fairly certain they are all pretty stock. Maybe an exhaust, BOV here and there, but nothing serious.

How would a GTR go against them?

mate with that kinda power at the wheels an STi would be lucky to sniff the fumes from ur exhaust let a lone pose any sort of problem lmao

most hi-po STi's are around the 300kw @ the fly mark and they are very rare... most of the drivers a re yuppies that just buy them for the name and dont spend much on em. (bit of a generalisation but has a fair bit of truth to it)

My mate has a stock STI.

I have an R32GTS-t with a pipe, K&N, BOV and 235 tyres with adjustable sports suspension, and I think my car makes about 10psi of boost. His car definitely has more power than mine - he gets out of corners quicker and we have about matched driving ability..... BUT, in a fang going up into the mountains, he only made a couple of hundred metres on me over several k's. His tyres are stock. My car seems to handle better - you just can't beat the 4 wheel steer in the twisties.

GTR? I think you'd see em off.

(And by the way, he has 70K on his car, is onto his second box and the synchros are not so hot on this one either - it will probably need work in the next year or so. They do tend to have box problems.)

Woooohoooo...

Good one Andrew, your GTR is on it's way - well done

If the STi's are anything like the WRX's, if they dump the clutch too many times they be leaving their clutch and gearbox behind them at the lights :bahaha: :bahaha:

I really can't see you having a problem.

You might just end up having one of the fastest cars in your town :uh-huh: :uh-huh:

J

inark: the STI's have 300kw? Or is that the pretty heavily modded ones?

I thought that I should be able to beat them, but I remember racing an MY00 in my GTS-T and he cained me by a fait bit.

Jay: hey mate! Yeah finally got my dream happening, I just cant wait until it comes! Im even having weird dreams about 4WD and so on. Like taking off and this magical thing happens and the 4WD shoots me forward....... weird........

ive been on a mountain run with an 02 STI. Very good poise through the corners, it can make a young rough driver can look very good but it seems to be a relatively slow car, especially in a highway roll-on situation.

nice car, but :shake: to STI.

Bahahah - you know that your a a true Skyline lover when your dreaming of them.

But seriously, you'll have yourself a weapon of a car Andrew. After reading that link above, the Australian delivered STi's only have 195kw at the flywheel (that is stock), and don't come on (serious) boost untill around 4,000rpm. So for them to do anything serious they have to dump the clutch.

And that link actually said that they don't know how Subaru come up with tha 0-100 time of ~5.5 sec cause they could only manage a low 6 sec. And a stock GTS-t does a mid 6 sec 0-100 !!!

Once you get the launch down pat I think your going to have some fun with the STi's :D :uh-huh: :uh-huh:

:burnout:

The ones in Japan have had the updated motor for a couple of years with more power. Its probably just that motor that they're finally brining to the local version, which missed the update for a couple of years. Least they look better again with the revised front.

Jay: yeah I still reckon most of the guys around here who have bought them, just want to look good, and to say "I have an STI". Seriously, all the ones ive seen, have been driven by the "fully shik" blokes who got their parents to buy it for them. Not saying all WRX drivers are like this, but the ones Ive seen.......:(

14 1/4 mile? HAHAHA nuthin! I would have been able to beat one in my old "T".

Im hoping for 11's.

Guest too quick

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
