Can anyone tell me if/what is Hi Flowing standard injectors ?? I'm guessing that they are bored out a bit and given something for more oomph. ??

Are they as good as replacing std injectors with say Nismo or Sard injectors ??

Have you been reading Zoom mag? I saw an article in there where it states that Paramout performance in QLD (07) 4659 9711 did this to ford injectors, taking them out to 550cc from a mere 180cc. Unfortunatley, the process is stated as being 'a bit of a secret'. It would be interesting to see what they can do to a set of stock Nissan 370cc squirters!

I wouldn't recommend this approach if you can afford to purchase properly sized injectors. With most injectors it is possible to replace most of the parts to make them hi-flow, but the cost heads toward that of buying aftermarket Bosch ones.

Aslong as the injectors are flow tested to ensure that they are providing the stated flow rate then they should be fine, but you have to weight whether the risk is worth the cost saving.

If you have a GTS-t then this appraoch would have the added benefit of not needing to replace the fuel rail, for top feed injectors.

Brendan,

I went and spoke with Jim from Croydon Racing Development and he also recommended hi flowing my stock injectors rather than replacing with an aftermarket injecter like the Nismo 550cc.

His reasons being its alot cheaper, the stock injectors can be modified to run 650cc and they are individually balanced.

Thanks - Mark has a guy working for him now that does this - and has done to mine - I believe mine are now flowing at 610cc .

I know I am a bit of a guinea pig, but like you say, cheaper and better - The car should be on thre Dyno on Friday !! Let's see the results !!

Hi Guys,

I was discussing this option with some of the tuners I know, and they said not to do it. An injector is build as a sealed unit, therefore the only way to get more fuel out is to bore the nozzle. The nozzles are specifically designed to atomise the fuel as it leaves the injector, creating a fine spray of fuel mist. The reason for this is that it provides a greater A/F surface area, which aids in a cleaner burn and therefore better power delivery.

If the nozzles are bored then the fuel will squirt out in a stream, and not provide the optimum fuel delivery. I know a few people see this as a cheap alternative to expensive after-market injectors, but I would wait and see the results before jumping on board. If this was a good option then I think we would have seen the Japs doing it, or it would have been mentioned in an Import car mag.

This is just my opinion, if anyone wants to try it then cool, just let us know how it performs and the cost of the hi-flowing.

$100 per injector? Is that high impedence, side feed? If so please let me know where, as I was looking at second hand 550s, and the cheapest I have seen were over $200

EDIT: first heard of the high flowing in a Zoom mag, where a guy was getting 413rwkw using high flow injectors.

Ah, top feed - just wish I was doing the plenum, then it would be a different ball game. When you recon in the cost difference between the side feeds for use with stock plenum, against the cost of top feed with a modified plenum, the cost isnt a huge difference.

Have heard it is damn near impossible to get top feeds under the stock plenum (why in gods name didnt they give the gts the same plenum as the gtr).

Steve,

I always hated the GTS-t plenum design, therefore I changed it as soon as possible. It gives me the added advantage of a range of top feed injectors at resonable prices. You can always have my factory ones and hi-flow them once I get my new injectors put in.

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.

    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
