The R34 housing is noticably bigger than the R33 one. I've had them side by side and photographed them for the forum but the pics have been lost in the migration.

That's why when you lot all started crapping on (:P) about VG30 turbos I pointed out that the R34 turbo also has a bigger exhaust housing which is why I got 228rwkw from an AUTO at 12.5 psi.

How do you know? And have you replaced it?

I am pretty sure because it has happened to other people before with R34's and I took notice. Then I spent an entire drag day deducing the problem. It was fine for one run but then do a second without 20-30 minute cooldown and the power loss was dramatic.

I have replaced it but not really tested because it doesn't really happen on the street. Only on the strip and down the straight on the track.

i managed to locate a vg30 single turbo and it is now down at gcg along with an r33 turbo getting the hybrid hiflow done. im interested to see what sort of power i can expect from it, im aiming for 250kw so will update when time comes.

got the turbo back now and it looks good, its amazing the difference in exhaust wheel size in the standard turbo to the hiflowed one.Much larger im eager to see how it drives and boosts so in afew weeks when i get my car running will let u all know

  • 3 months later...

well i finally got the car going with this turbo setup although i have rebuilt the engine, got cams now etc so not just the turbo upgrade which makes it hard to note the difference in turbo response etc plus im still running the stock cooler and ecu at this stage as funds are not in my favour. Turbo duz feel nice although im only running stock boost and the car is definately faster that before with the stock turbo and running 13psi. just gotta eliminate stock cooler, ecu, dump pipe and injectors and i will be able to put a power figure down

it is IDENTICAL in every way shape and form.

I've had them both on my desk and measured every part of them and they are the same.

Don't go telling everyone and all the wreckers, or the prices will go through the roof again.

Are you hi-flowing your stock turbos with a VG-30 BB or a Garrett hi-flow.

I have these mods in my car now and which of these other mods do you think I should get or add first.

What I have now.

1: POD

2: TM duel boost control

3: Split Dump Pipe

4: Exhaust from Turbo 3" tip

5: A cheap FMIC

6 Apexi PFC W/HC

What do I need in addition first

1: Walbro fuel pump

2: Fuel reg

3: Z32 AFM

4: Injectors....which are the very best for a 1996 GTS-T SII?

5: cam and which kind and the benifit of them, exhaust and adjectable...why them and which brand is best?

I understand a lot of these questions may have been answered before but I have just arrived in Australia, so all your help is so much appreciated.

1: Walbro fuel pump I don't trust them. There are other options.

3: Z32 AFM Yes.

5: cam and which kind and the benifit of them, exhaust and adjectable...why them and which brand is best? Adjectable? I recommend a pair of Tomei type b Poncams.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
