I'm having real problems with temps at the tracks and was wondering about getting a carbon fibre bonnet with vents. Anyone have any experience with holes in bonnets? Also where else can I get one besides unique? Like to keep options open.

You could have your own bonnet vented fairly cheaply I'd imagine. Then again for $1000 a carbon one from UAS is hard to beat. Proper all carbon fibre bonnets from Jap land can cost $4k+.

Have you upgraded the radiator?

Make sure the water pump is not too old, most have been replaced when the timing belt is done at 100,000kms.

The water pump can cavitate the water at high rpms as well, running a slightly under driven pulley kit like the one trust do would be an idea as well if the car is going to the track a fair bit.

I liked the look of the carbo fibre bonnet from Unique, just waiting for them to make one for the Series I R33. Has anyone actually put one on, what is the fit like? Does carbon fibre fade in the sun?

If your into circuit racing then I think a bigger radiator is a must, the vented bonnet will definately help reduce the temp aswell.

I think that the pulley idea that rev210 mentioned is good, cavitating pumps are useless and the will cavitate more as the temperature increases.

It does seem a wank that a vented bonnet draws so much attention, even factory cars like Evo's have been stickered for the vented bonnets. I don't see what possible law that they break, except bad taste in some cases.

I believe that UAS get their carbon bonnets from Carmate in Lansvale, Carmate are selling the bonnets for around $900 maybe even cheaper.

With the carbin bonnets it does get rid of all the heat in there fairly fast.

Carbon doesn't fade in the sun, well not yet anyway, I've had mine on about 5000km but it will need to be clear coated. The bonnets actually only have a gell coat on it and to keep up the looks and reduce the dull it will need to be slightly sanded back and then clear coated.

hope it helps.

I replaced my pump about a month ago along with the timing belt cost $150 Nissan item.

At one point it did cross my mind, however some folks on SDU said they are prone to electrical problems. I also had the idea to remove the mechanical fan and put electric fans, however this also has the same problem.

Silver-Arrows.....I know it's full sick, but, DON'T put on the 747 wing. My mate had a really bad expereance going over the Gateway bridge at 110kph in a very slight crosswind. By rapidly juggling between high and superhigh boost he was able to land it almost undamaged on Cleveland Rd but now he has a bad twitch and a tendancy to spill his beer whenever he hears a plane go over....He replaced it with the really high GTR wing with 2 intermediate wings and a bootlid lip. It looks really really smick and shows no signs of ever taking off.

Mick51,

I was only kidding with fatz.

I really want a sleeper, so no kit or wing is being bolted on as long as I'm still the owner of the car. The idea of the bonnet was just purely for the race track, nothing more. Yeah I know which bridge your talking about, I went past there before and OMG, it's so f*ckn big

If you manage to find a good deal can you please PM me. I have been hunting around and have found carbon fibre ones mostly going for about $900 - $1000 (UAS seem to be good) or fibreglass painted same colour as my car for $900 - $1000 or about $700 if i hack up my own one....

tryin to find some better prices than that at the moment...

Silver-Arrows.......with a vented carbon fibre bonnet your sleeper days will be long gone.

I have the same thought ...but where is the right place for the vents. I'd like to do something to help with the heat soak when you sit in the staging lanes for 30 minutes, Wed 1st at Willowbank it was over an hour between runs and that was if you went straight back around.

Do you know what the stock bonnet and boot weigh?? they'r pretty hefty

so far Stock 16ins mags with 205 50 tyres 19.25kg each

I meant sleeper on the streets.

25GTT, I went looking around today and found that Car Mate are asking for $1050 for the same one as Unique. I didn't get to see it in real life but I'm not too impressed. Jetspeed are getting some in at the end of the month and have no idea on price.

I will keep you up to date.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
