Ok, did a search and couldnt find info from anyone whose done it...so ill ask the q's ive got here....

I need new rotors and new pads for the r32 gtst. I understand r33 rotors are larger, and that the r32 calipers are up to the task...

So i want to fit r33 rotors (or the largest i can fit :D ) with some freshly rebuilt r32 calipers, using new pads...heres the q's :angry: :

1. Looking at the www.dba.com.au website, can anyone tell me whats the part number of some r33 rotors (DBA4000 series, wiper slotted surface, with kangaroo paw inner)? Or can i go larger in size? (currently have 16" rims)

2. Where can i get the new caliper mount to offset the larger rotor, and do i need one?...also how much should it cost? :angry:

3. Anybody got the workshop diagrams for the r32 calipers, so i can rebuild them? Is it hard to do yourself, or best left to a workshop?

4. How hard is it to swap the rotors etc, yourself?...

Your GTST will have 280mm rotors, the R33 uses 296mm and R34 310mm. You can run the 296mm rotor, but you will need to use the R33 caliper, did the 310mm ; you will need the R34 caliper.

Problem with trying to use a bracket to offset the rotor that is only 16mm bigger, is well condider the bolt holes are somthign like 12mm, so by the time you drill the two holes next together, there isnt goign to be much meat in the bracket between the hole centres :angry:

So the best bet is sell the R32 caliper and rotor to an S13 owner, and put that money towards soem R34 GTT calipers, then run something like the DBA4000 rotor. (or std rotor if its till in good condition)

Next best bet is grab R33 or R32GTR calipers, check the condition of the seals and pistons etc. And throw on the DBA4000 296mm rotor.

I think the 310mm may need 17" wheels, never really checked though. But if you want to use the R32 caliper you currently have, then let me know what budget you have as i may be able to sort a nice curved vane 324 x 30mm rotor with adaptor to offset your caliper for reasonable price. Are you after slotted, slotted/cross drilled????

Take the caliper off, and give them a clean..all will be revealed. its not difficult to re-co them and inspect them yourself. Th eonly tricky thing is the grease you use for re-assembly

Piss easy, two bolts holf the caliper on, remove brake line if your goign to service the caliper and the rotor should fall off. If it doesnt the rotor has a tapped hole that you cen screw a bolt into to help pry off the rotor if they are rusted on. Just check everything is tight when all goign back together :angry:

Oh...and remove the dust shield while you are there...cut cut cut :D

r32 gtr would be an easy upgrade, straight bolt off, bolt on. all you need is the discs and calipers. I've got some in my shed you can have a look at, quite a bit chunkier than the ones you've got now. I dont want to sell mine, but you can have a look to get an idea how they differ.

Oh, and to make the job all that cheaper, I have a mate that would be interested in your current set up.

Im interested in the 324 x 30mm rotor with caliper offset mount...but would it need 17" rims to fit as well Troy? I really dont have the cash to upgrade rims atm, but 17" are on the list...or better 16" rims (still undecided on that path). If the will fit the 16" rims, tell me more :D

So as long as i use the caliper that is normally used with the rotor, you just bolt them up? The caliper mount stays the same?

im using 32 gtr calipers as new 4000 dba discs will be very similar costs for all three options and pads are the same so have a look around for some cheap calipers for sale, it will be cheaper i think to buy some gtr 32 calipers and sell yours then you can use off the shelf rotors with no adapters needed, add some braided lines and good pads and your set. I dont think there is any need for anything larger in a 32 unless you do serious track work

I have noticed with the bigger motor i need to pull it up a tad harder these days :P Pads dont last as long either....

I guess id like an easy upgrade, and the way others have said to sell my gear, then go larger calipers and off the shelf rotors seems nice and easy....

What kind of grease is needed? I think ive got a fresh jar of high temp. grease...HTB? is the one i got...its grey in colour. Will look later to find out.

Why do i want to remove the dust shield?

Dust shield generally means higher brake temps...not a bad thing on the street where you want your brakes to come up to temp quickly and be ready for that one big stop when required. But in spirited driving they get too hot all by themselves so every bit of free cooling is good.

As for the 324mm they do need 17' wheels. Its up to you what you want to do, the 296mm would still be a good upgrade....and i think the bigger rotor gives a nicer feel under brakes...others that have driven the car seem to say that it stops nicely..actually you have driven the old girl, though i cant remember what pads i had in ti back then, i think they were jusr RB74s.

Ill do some numbers and shoot off an email reagrding some options other then the DBA route...

As for the grease...i got no idea, all i know is that it not the sort i put in my hair...

Perhaps ring the local brake joibt and just make out liek you know the stuff; yeh, yeh, just some of the grease for the caliper pistons thanks, yeh you know the one" :P

Actually did a search, and its not exactly the same for the Nissan caliper but its close enough to get you goign, and with the caliper in front of you, well you can easily suss out the rest

Sounds the one, years ago when a friend adn i were doing a 200SX i think we used PBR...but sounds like the same thing. Interesting to read that BMW How to suggests just to use brake fluid, makes sense i suppose...i popped a pston out the other week when i was tryign to rush a fluid and pad change, only i forgot to put the pads in, and upon haivn to put th eiston and sealetc ack in, it appeared that Race Brakes had used grease after i had my calipers HPC coated

Interesting to read that BMW How to suggests just to use brake fluid, makes sense i suppose...

But what happens when water gets inside your calipers? Brake fluids hygroscopic(?), & your pistons wouldnt be as "lubed up" after a period of time, then would sieze if not serviced regularly...

Ill stick with the grease still :P

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
