:P ive owned my r33 for over how many years now, and to this date i thought it never had a low fuel warning light. now yeterday as i was reversing into my driveway it came on for the first time ever ever , and lasted for about 20 secs untill i reversed up. it then slowly dissapeared. any clue as to maybe where the problem might be ?

how does your fuel senors work is it from the tank that might not be working well and cant send the message most of the time to light up or dash problems ?

not sure how it works in a skyline, but in my tx5, if the tank is low on fuel, and u turn a corner etc, that can make the light come on if the fuel goes to 1 side and the sensor thinks there's none left...

then as it evens out again, the light slowly fades

ive owned the car for a few years and ive on some careless occassion being many run the fuel very very low and its never lite up to give me warning before untill it did now for its first time in history.

i want it to work, like normal, so what happens if it was a one off thing and it doesn t choose to work again?

what do i need to look at to get it working constantly?

as far as i'm aware, the light basically works with the red line on the fuel gauge...

when i turn the corners etc, and the fuel moves around, the gauge changes, and if the needle gets into the red the light starts to come on...its not straight on straight off, it fades in and out depending how far the needle falls into the red

yes. but if you're not hard under boost or anything, it's not really going to cause damage. a risk you may run tho is sucking any shit in the bottom of the tank into the fuel lines, and clogging the fuel filter. rare, but possible. I'm guessing you weren't running the tank as empty as you thought you were...

I've actually read that in the fuel tank there is a little sensor knob thingy.. and when it drops past a certain point the fuel light comes on.

Bear in mind, if u are on any sort of incline the fuel in the tank is obivously in a different state as well because of our friend mr gravity.

So what you'll notice is that if you are facing downhill, it may seem like u have MORE fuel in the tank (negligible) and if u are facing uphill, the car will think u have LESS fuel in the tank because the all the fuel has shifted to the one end of the fuel tank, and the sensor has passed it's 'low fuel' point meaning ur light comes on.

Hope this helps dude.

yeah dont worry about it, u wil still have like a good 50-60kms of driving to go, on a cold nite if it comes on and i cant be stuffed, i just leave it to the morning, no harm done, ive let it go really low, i think i pumped in about 58 litres, cant damn remember, but the light was still fading on and off. i found sitting at lites on idle, it will slowly come on, and when i take off steadily it will fade away. Weird.

    • Hey everyone. Is there a way I can get the original window sticker (maroney label) for my 1995 R33 GTST? I doubt I’ll be able to ever get it but it’s worth a shot to ask
    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
