all you p platers.. if your driving a r33 and its illegal ya ? and your name is on the insurance policy im pretty sure the insurance company isnt gonna pay you out anything if you ever need it :P

its the same as all those people with illegal mods listed on there insurance policy

it depends on the insurance company if they are smart or not, ive known a few r33 gtst p platers to make claims and its gone through fine with no dramas, most dont honour it or check it

My 32 GTR is on my Dads name, 33 GTST is on my Mums name (helps with insurance too)

I've been driving turbo imports since I was 16, the issue has never come up.

Dunno if they let u register cars that are over the limit on your own name or not, pretty sure they haven't got a clue and allow it.

OMG GT-R your my hero

read the fine print.

the insurance is based on the youngest driver so having it your parents name means sweet f a, the insurance companies kinda fixed that loop hole probably about 10 years ago when every man and his dog was doing it. since 16 hey so youve had a valid full licence at 16, not bad consider vic you can't get one till 18.

by law you can't drive any car that is over power to wieght ratio on p-plates. that does not take into consideration age or the cars engine swap etc. you could be 35 and on your p plates cos youve lost your licence to drink driving so therefore you cant' drive a car over 125kw per tonne cos your still on your p's regardless of age. its not enforced very well and most cops don't do anything, some do.

some insurance comparies know about it and will insure any driver and any car and then when you make a claim reject it if you were driving and your licence type does not permit you to drive said vehicle. i have seen a few where said driver is not permitted by law to drive said vehicle and they've made a claim and its fine been. so its really case by case and a risk to some extent for p plater r33 gtst owners

uh oh... :D

why uh oh? you didnt know about that?

i knew about the power to weight laws etc....just thought that if they were going to insure you, they should accept ur claim.

its a load of shit. they know when they accept you that the power/weight law is in place, but they'll happily take the premium, then not pay up when its time to make a claim...

that is criminal

just because you insure the car in your name doesnt necessarily mean you will be the one driving it, for all they know you could be dumb and insure it under your name but your mum is driving it, so in that case it will apply by law she may (well most likely) be permitted by law to drive the car. the insurance company could prolly find out pretty easily which policies are automatically void based on car and driver licence type but they dont seem to care, even at claim stage they just yeah ok approved

yes and no. on the policy you list 1 driver, with 0 others to be driving the car. then you list the age of the youngest driver, and its not hard to work out the rest.

either way, lets just hope i dont even have to try my luck, and never make a claim

An insurance company will find the smallest thing in the world not to pay, so good luck getting a cent out of them. Even if your window tint is too dark they can refuse to pay and your left on your ass...

werd.

its hit and miss, if your on your P's and drive a car like we do that in reality is illegal for us to drive anyways, insurance is a win lose situation, you may get lucky, you may get stung bad, it depends, the easiest way... is to not drive like a dick and smash your car therefore you wont have to put in an insurance claim. and if by chance you do ( which god forbid ) then its a gamble, thats all there is to it.

thats exactly how i see it....i know its risky, it just sucks...

if someone hits you though, like from behind so they're at fault, is there any issue there?

Yeah but if they hit you from behind and there is another car infront of you and you hit them. The guy that hit you has to pay you and you have to pay the person that u got pushed into. I still think that is complete bullshit but thats how it is. I think the driver that caused it in the first place should pay for the whole accident because it is a result of them. Which comes to the point, they hit you, their insurance pays for you but then your insurance (since you driving an illegal car) can refuse to pay out for someone elses car, then your stuck in debt. So sometimes being careful is just not enough...

This is what happened to me in my old R31 a few years ago, i was the car in front.

If you are completely stopped, and you are hit from behind and are pushed into the car in front of you, its not your fault. Both cars are claimed on the guy that hit you's insurance.

I guess this is because as you are completely stopped, any distance between you and the car infront of you is a safe distance.

I just got my r32gtst coupe registered yesterday (for the second time....f**k you vicroads) and yeah apparently my cars illegal, and they clearly don't care..

A r32 gtst is not illegal, its under the limit.

Never heard of that. In each case I have seen, while not your fault, it is claimed off your insurance.

Insurance is guilty until proven innocent :)

I dont mind as I am old so insurance doesnt cost me much now! ;)

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
