Hey, since i'm soon to be a skyline owner, i was just wondering roughly how much it would cost me to get my skyline up to 200rwkw and what would be the best and cheapest mods to get.

The skyline will be pretty much stock, except maybe for a pod air filter and catback exhaust. There may be other mods, but im not sure yet.

I want it to be able to beat my friends Holden V8 Commodore (Damn Commodores!) which has 197rwkw :D

Also my other friend is buying a Mildly modded VL commodore with an RB30DET engine in it, does anyone know how much power this car would have?

bro i own a 97 M-spec. my goal is 200kw @ the wheels befor dec.

to pull about 180wk @ the wheels you will need a good cat-back exhaust system, a front mount cooter, boost controller and a aftermarket computer to get the best from ur stocky turbo.

wind up the boost to around 0.9 bar (1 bar = 14.5psi if my merrory is right)

If you want up to 240kw @ the wheels, add a good bolt on turbo, larger injectors, larger fule pump high flow cat and adjustabul cam gears. wind it up to 1.2 bar of boost. i been told it sould give you better turbo responce and stronger mid range.

hope this info helps ya mate. good luck wit it bro.

Just remember modifyin ur SKYLINE is like gettin hooked on drugs.... its so addictive... ;)

yah i bet it is ;) i have never driven a car faster than my friends V6 statesman, which isnt that fast :D so even a stock skyline would have me addicted :)

My plans for first mods are, Turbo back exhaust, cold air intake, Boost controller, aftermarket ECU, and a good tune. Pretty much as above in Dush's post, minus the intercooler, plus a cold air intake.

So could anyone tell me what these mods would cost all up, and if they'd bring me to 200rwkw? or atleast close to it..

I found these figures for mods on a webpage, can anyone tell me if they are accurate?

Cold Air Intake: 15rwkw

Exhaust: 20rwkw

Boost controller: 15rwkw

ECU: atleast 20rwkw

Assuming the stock skyline has between 130 - 140rwkw, these mods would bring the total to approx. 200 - 210 rwkw?

i'm looking at spending $3000 maximium for my first mods, hopefully that will be enough to get me what i need for 200rwkw.

There is no hard and fast rwkw for any mod. That website is stupid.

You also need to learn that not every mod is done to increase power, there are many mods that need to be done as support mods to allow the extra power from other mods. ie fuel pump as a good example.

and exhaust and power FC will take u close to $3,000 ;)

Required:

Full Turbo back 3" exhaust - ~$1200

K&N Panel Filter - ~$100

AVCR-R (or other boost controller) - ~$550

PowerFC+HC + Tuning - ~$1500

Adjustable exhaust cam gear - ~$200

FMIC - ~$1200

= ~$4,750

Possibly required:

Larger fuel pump - ~$300

Fuel regulator - ~$200

NJR R34GTT yes.. i realise you need those sorts of mods to accomodate for the extra power, but would you really need an aftermarket fuel pump or better intercooler just for 200rwkw?

Shanef I would probably not have to pay to have any of the above mods installed, as i would probably do them myself, and also have friends that are, or were mechanics... and that much for a tune?? u serious?!

A good exhaust, i have been quoted to be around $900 by a few people PowerFC ECU - $1000 give or take

Cold air intake - $200 though the skyline may already have one installed..

Boost controller - dunno? but it can't be that much?..

I know the skyline will already have a catback exhaust installed, is this different from turbo back? if so.. how? better, or worse..

So if i am correct with the prices then,

Exhaust: $1000 approx

PowerFC: $1000 which i have seen for this price

Cold air intake: $200 approx

Boost controller: $500 give or take? (coz i have no clue how much these are)

Total - $2700 approx. without tune included, if a tune makes a great difference, then i have no probs spending a bit extra for it.

I really can't see where the extra cost is... my guesstimate of $3000 seems pretty accurate... yet shanef finds it laughable ;)

Maybe i am getting bad quotes.. i dunno, does anyone who disagree's with these prices mind telling me what they paid?

You'll need the intercooler when you start playing with the boost controller ;)

also.. if your JUST looking for like 200kw as cheap as possible, you could get a safc2 for like $400 (save $600 from not buying the powerfc)

get a bleed valve for like $22 instead of a boost controller (saved $478 from not buying an electronic one just yet )

thus with the $1078 you've saved you can buy a nice intercooler :D

oh btw.. a powerfc will be like $500-700 or so to tune

cool, thx for the info.. keep it coming :P hey, i just saw a brand new Power FC for sale on ebay to suite RB25det for $650AUD perhaps buying the parts from ebay would be the way to go... i will see what else i can find.

This is what I did to get 200+ rwkw (9.5psi).

Power fc - $960

AVCR - $600

Hybrid front mount - $900

3" exhaust - $1000

Power intake filter - $150

Labour - $250

Tune (required with power fc) - $400

Total - $4260

If youve already got a filter and exhaust then take away approx. $1200.

You're probably looking at around $3K all up.

I reckon your estimate is pretty close to the mark.

Eventually you will probably need to upgrade your fuel pump and regulator as the stocker will be struggling a bit on high boost.

Fuel pump - $400

Fuel reg - $170

:(

cold air intake.. aint that whats the stock cooler or aftermarket cooler is for..?

Cold air intake basically means shielding your pod filter from the hot engine bay temps. This means that your charge air will be cooler even before it hits the intercooler. It will only make a small difference, but a difference none the less.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
