ferni
At 55k for a brand new car, good performance, good handling.. the athsetics are still lacking... but thats personal opinion.... its very well priced/good value. I like the ride of subarus. Never had a chance to give an STI a good thrash. Gotta remember this car has warrenty as well. Once they get the 2.5litre donk in it i think it would be high on my shopping list if i was looking for a new car.... WazR32GTSt
does it seem odd to anyone to compare a brand-new 05 model car with the latest available technology and development to any car made in the 90's? even an R34 is 3-4 years older... its stupid even comparing stock cars with modified cars.. everyone is going to have their opinions, and this is mine Warren. wrxhoon
I have both 02 sti ( same power as 05 and the same weight 1432 kg )and a series II R34 GTR ( late 01) it weighs 1580 . I can tell you stock for stock the GTR will kill the STi anywhere , 0-100 , 1/4 mile ( 0.7 sec faster ) and around the track . If you find a very tight track the STI may stay with the GTR but its got to be very tight with lots of hairpins . A group C STI is much different though probably as quick or even quicker that a stock GTR , i dont know realy as i dont have any experiance with them . The 2.5 wrx engines that are sold in USA are not any better than the 2.0 lts , actualy the 2.0 lts are much better and in Japan make 225 kw @ the fly but a 34 GTR makes like 240-250 kw . The other thing dont forget that max peak power doesn't mean is quicker than another car of the same weight with heigher average power and thats the case with a GTR . As for a 33 GTST smoking an STI ,( both stock ) you are dreaming , even a normal WRX will smoke your stock GTST , anywhere and by a good margin too . Dahtone Racing
i can tell you right now 02 and 05 STi are totally different cars even the 03-04 is different to the 01-02 power and weight may be the same but thats where the similarities end how can u say the 2L is better then the 2.5L? are you normal? 2.5L has a shitload more torque. once you start to get to the high 11s its time to bin the 2.0 and go for a 2.5 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84999-taken-on-a-05-wrx-sti-lately/page/2/#findComment-1541722 Share on other sites
GTRgeoff
Seems to be many more textbook/car mag wannabees around lately who know all the specs but have no track time or are so inexperienced it makes a mockery of their opinions. Some of us race with the Vic WRX club. They are our mates and we respect their rides and the bottom line is that some places suit the STi and some the GTR. Some, like wrxhoon own both WRX (yes even STi's) and GTR34's and the story is always the same as what was just suggested. I have a few laps in various rexies and find they are competent cars and good for a purpose, as are GTR's for their purpose. I even played slalom against a nicely race prepped STi RA and almost took him out of the knockout comp using superior accell on the return run after falling behind on the switches. First run was so close we had a rerun. I was on road rubber and he had the semi's, cage, anti-lag etc. Nice car. I also have a couple of GTS25t's and the manual on road rubber (not semi's) runs around Phillip Island in 2:00 a little lowered with old manky suspension and swaybars so essentially stock spec as the rules state. Not bad for 11 years old. In a straight line the launch of the STI is good, but not GTR good. Certainly the GTSt will struggle. Final point. Get off the road and onto the track. It's the only place to get cred. If you race on the streets you don't belong here. NS and ricers forum that way -----> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I totaly agree with you , by the way i owned a 33 gtr for a few years before i bought the 34 and several rexes including a v-6 (00 ) sti . 2GU UP First of all there was no 01 sti's sold in australia ,the first bugeye sti sold here was in late 01 but it was 02 spec . 02 and 03 there is no difference in engine or drivetrain only body differences . 05 there is they have a transfer case that you can choose the bias fron to rear but no more power . 05 also have a different p.c.d. ( 5x114.3 )so they can fit bigger bearings . As far as me being normal , well whats normal , i dont know maybe not . You are correct in saying that the 2.5 block has more torque but dont forget you loose it on top end as they cant be reved high and they are crap blocks . They only sell them in USA , they are easier to meet their emissions . If you realy want to know the best wrx engine is in the 22b and its 2.2 lts not 2.5 . R34
The Liberty engine seems to be good for a 2 litre too It has more power and torque than the WRX mill WRX Max. output (DIN) kW/rpm 168/6000 Max. torque (DIN) Nm/rpm 300/3600 Liberty Max. output (DIN) kW/rpm 190/6400 Max. torque (DIN) Nm/rpm 330/2400 10% more torque 1200rpms earlier. That engine in a WRX would make the WRX much nicer round town. How would a boosted WRX compare to a 32GTR? I'm trading my WRX for a daily driver V35 and getting a 32GTR for weekend fun Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84999-taken-on-a-05-wrx-sti-lately/page/2/#findComment-1543733 Share on other sites
GTRgeoff
I think the GTR32 will feel much more rear oriented but you can get Duncan's ATTESSA controller to adjust. Good idea to have a daily and a racer/weekender and is what I do. I'm also up for a V35 350GT CVT8 as soon as I move the 33GTSt auto and V8 Soarer. On a different note, SirSkylines post history makes interesting reading but no lap times recorded.......so clearly doing stupid stuff on the street. Do us all a favour and keep that to yourself SS. The 2.2 on the 22b on the other hand is a different story . So you think the japs dont know what they are doing when they still use a 2.0 lt in their own market ? The current jap sti will eat the sti sold in the states . mad34
WRX's are good cars, but they definately are no gtr. One of my mates has a 05 wex (cat back exhaust, air filter) i have r34gtt auto with exhaust, filter, fmic. We have had a few tame little runs here and there he has fantastic off the line launch, but not that much better than the line. ( especially with tcs on i get no wheels spin at all)As soon as my power band hits and the line is off the mark the rexie does run out of puff. Still a very nice solid well built car though But RB isnt just two letters its stands for something (race bred) unlike EJ hehehe LOL and no i am no tosser street racer before any one gets angry and has a go just have a little fun here and there with my mates very late at night on deserted roads. nothing stupid and dangerous i value my life and others lives too much. But as others have said the true test is on the track end of story!. so in the regards to the track side of things i have nfi what is better. If i was going to have a race car though Id love to get a un cmoplied r34gtr and race it on weekends that would be the shit!!! Id definately choose that over the wrx to race as for that movie with the evo, wrx, r34, r33, r32 gtr, v 35 etc the r34 wins hands down i think i recall seeing it on a dvd called gtr the prodigy or something like that though so i dont know if it was nissan propaganda type movie, either way it kicked assssss Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84999-taken-on-a-05-wrx-sti-lately/page/2/#findComment-1544795 Share on other sites

Stock WRX and GTT would be close to each other I think but an STI would be long gone but not as quick as a 34GTR in a straight line. Got my auto R34 down to 13.6 400m at the Motorplex with same mods as yours plus hiflow turbo and e-manage. My 02 WRX with similar mods to your mates 05 plus chip cracks 13.8 The WRX is a great car for sure but I still miss my Skylines..something to be rectified soon Cheers Edited August 25, 2005 by R34 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84999-taken-on-a-05-wrx-sti-lately/page/2/#findComment-1545599 Share on other sites
Amir
autospeed has some interesting writeups on gtr's Summary: R32- poor handling. All hype and nothing to show R33- better than R32, but if you wanted a car that could do the same as a GTR R33 and more....by an STi R34 GTR Vspec NurII (something like that) - they freaked and said it was awasome.
