Hey,

Just got my 2001 R34 GTT, bought a tiptronic as the price was too good to pass up & find it very responsive.

I want to fit a front mount and im just wondering if anyone else has done this. If so did you have to move the transmission cooler & was it easy to do.

Cheers

What size intercooler did you get Adam? And did you have to spend heaps of time getting all the crap out at the front of the car?

I'm planning on doing it soon, just need to shop around and pick up a decent kit - installation will be done by a few mates so that should be ok!

I fitted a 600x300x75mm FMIC (r33 style) about a month ago, i didn't have to move the trans cooler just flipped the sensor that sticks out however the wiper watertank needed to be moved since the piping for the right side needs to go through the body there. take a look at some of pics after it was done:

best bet is to go for a kit made for the rb25det since both in the in/out pipes will go done one side through the stock pipe holes, eliminating alot of work.

Hey. I just fitted mine last weekend. I didnt have to move the trans cooler but i had to move the horns and take a small "V" shaped cut just below the bonnet clip thing (if that makes sense). I fitted a 600x300...

I also had to take my fog lamps out as the piping was got in the way.

The hardest part i found about the whole exersise was getting the spolier off :-)

If you wanna know what kit i used and what i paid etc PM me.

good luck!

I used Bob's instructions and fitted the same cooler, I didn't move the trans cooler as I shortened the piped underneath the transcooler slightly and tilted it back a little. Mine sits up a little higher than Bob's but not a lot. I did have to move my horn(s) - wtf there was two? A days work with a bit of help from some mates.

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't have to move my transmission cooler either... but both my horns and the temp sensor had to be relocated.

No one has mentioned what they did with the windscreen washer bottle.. my one doesn't fit no more :P Anyone got suggestions?

Also, those using the stock airbox would have discovered that the snorkel doesn't fit. Thanks to El Bee, I solved this problem.

All of it is documented in my Blog entry... all the photos will be uploaded there in due course :)

    • BNR34-021049  Hello, how to check the VIN of GTR R34 ?
    • I havent deleted in but ran it for a while unplugged. Not THAT much difference, but definitely nicer with it working.
    • Good news, inflexible middle aged driver and nav can get in OK, and probably, we can pass the "prove you can get out in x seconds if the car was on fire test" (yes, that's a thing now). Lucky Bob the Evo we hired a few years back had a similar cage and we could get in and out OK, although access to the back to chuck helmets etc in was a pain On to the bigger problem. A 32 coupe is not a big car, I'm not short, and the new regs require no part of the helmet is closer than 50mm to the top of the cage at the roof, and same distance between the outside of the side bar at the roof and the helmets.  Having had a good look at it, Kel's seat is OK because it can be kind of anywhere, so we can remake the mounts and get it down and in. Mine however is a problem. I can probably get it the required 80mm lower by removing the slide and fix mounting the seat (there goes Kel's ability to driver the car without a seat insert....) but worse I need to move the seat inward 50mm as well, meaning the pedals and steering wheel will be offset.
    • More seriously though....the combination of the difficulty getting parts to repair the car, together with the issues around tarmac rally reg changes have been the real thing that has kept me from putting the car back together. Firstly, it's really clear that my cheapy import race car is no longer cheap. Things like bonnets and front guards are NLA, not to mention intercoolers, radiator supports, rear bars, boot lids, the list is endless (speaking of which, I made a throw away joke to my japanese friend Tsuyoshi....who then turned up with a boot lid in luggage on his next visit, what a legend!) Bottom line, while I've got it fixed this time, there is a really high chance that next crash (small or large) will result in something I can't fix. Yes, there's no point having a race car that doesn't race, but it feels like the car is one minor incident away from being an unrepairable car that can't race. The other issue on my mind has been the upcoming changes to regs. The less important thing is that grandfathered cages will no longer be allowed; we've been running this car for about 15 years with a pretty basic 6 point cage with 1 diagonal in the main hoop.  New rules mean we need to add: * Second cross in the main hoop * Cross brace in the roof (close to helmets unfortunately) * 2nd side intrusion bar each side  * 2nd brace from the top to bottom of the a pillar So, I put all those extra bars in last weekend: Driver side Nav side
