i have recently had an R32 imported and it has the general little problems that need to be fixed, as they do.

i was driving around last night doin about 60 in 3rd not accelerating or anything and the car just cut out. i put the pedal to the floor and the car would kick in and out jumpin all over the place, so i put the clutch in and revved it to the shit and it came back good.

drove around for about half an hour no probs but the it did it again in fourth.

only does it randomly and it has me worried. it has been doin it all day today.

need some help if anyone has had similar probs.

i tried a search but couldnt find anything.

all advice appreciated. thanks...

i've heard a few stories about air-flow meters going bad... not sure if this is your problem, maybe it needs a service - plugs + oil + filters?

My R33 misses under power about once every 5 takeoff's, very occasional but the bloke at Tilbrook has told me it is almost certainly the airflow meter faulty. The other confirming factor for Mr Tilbrook was that i only get 260kms from a tank! Not Good!

thanks for the reply guys.

well if he told you that 260kms out of a tank is a factor, well mine must be pretty shot because i drive resonably sensible and only get 320kms out of a tank...

might pick up a second hand one from the import guys i got the car off.

it was fully serviced when i got it imported. whatched them do it. got oil and fuel filters, iridium sparkies, all oils new pod etc...

thanks again i thought i was up for thousands...........

it really had me worried

happened to me on my r33 and i kno how u feel blooody annoying. i changed my plugs, fuel pump/filter and then found it was jus my air flow meter lol. upgraded to z32 no more problems :D

the airflow meter you said to me worked 100% fine when selling, which u said u upgraded thinking you would get more power with a z32?

lucky i did not buy it off you. cant trust many people nowdays can you!

i think i found the problem.

pulled my air filter off and my afm today to replace it with another one.

i looked at the afm inside on the sensor and it was covoered in this black stuff.

turns out it was the oil from the air filter. got a K&N pod filter, when i put it on u have to spray it with this oil stuff from a can. i think that this has sucked through and dirtied the afm. i put this other afm on and it hasnt played up as yet. kept the old on and am going to clean it and keep it as a spare.

does anyone no how to clean these. the link to this in the diy / faq section doesnt work...

thanks again guys that helped me with the problem.

Use carbi clean or throttlebody cleaner. These have always worked well. Contact cleaner works fine but I think is a little more expensive. I have never known any MAF meter to cause an engine to stall while your foot is on the accel. Usually at idle they stall. Sounds to be more like a fuel or ignition fault.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
