Well we are tuning it this week, expcet about 500hp at the wheels, this is without cams or agressive tuning, we want a reliable package.

The 4liter in the RZ is ok as it is a 25% increase in capacity which is allowed, I don't think you can do it in your case unless you have engineering certificates.

As we already had the engine and turbo the total cost is mainly in man-hours. We haven't come up with a proposed cost yet as we still have to tune the car and finish minor issues.

VSPEC.. I'm considering turboing a 1UZFE Soarer. Can you give me some details? Keen to know how much it cost, what you used for fuel management, details on the fuel system, manifolds, and how you decompressed the engine. Just a few quick details on each would be great, you don't have to write an essay.

How many psi are you running?

Miles B,

We will be initially tuning the car with a very conservative setup of about 10psi, to see how it repsonds to tuning. We have a single T78 sitting infront of the engine, there is plenty of room as the 1UZ is smaller in length. Engine management is via an Autronic SM2, manifolds are custom made.

I will attempt to get some photo's and post them for you, and will give you an estimate of the cost.

Miles,

We have left the pistons stock for the moment and just used head gaskets to decompress, although in the drag car we built using the 1UZ we have used pished pistons aswell.

The Motec will be good, don't think too much about the Autronic, too much mesing about.

GTS-t VSPEC,

would love to see the engine bay pics of the supra if you have some.

this project that ricknismo is talking about has not had an upper budget limit on it. any help you can supply would be appreciated, even though we acknowledge that traffic rules between the two states are going to be different, any tips on what stage a mechanical engineer should be brought in. i.e should they be part of the build up from go to whoa to ensure that money isn't wasted in the wrong area's.

has anyone else done this in qld and had it approved by main roads dept.

BigRod33,

With our car the 3->4litres is allowed under the current legislation, therefore the engineer only needs to confirm that the power output on the car is supported by the braking system. We are expecting very few problems getting it over the pits, be we shall see.

I'll take some photo's soon and post them.

If ya gonna put a v8 into a r33 , use a nissan v8.

I know where there is a nissan cema vh41 if your interested.

I think he wants 2g for the half cut. PM if u want info.

I heard the motor running in the cut its quite impressive.

4 cams 48 valves etc etc and revvs to 7500 no worries. Which means would be perfect with a turbo.

Not bad for an 8.

Why do you want a twin setup, a big single will definately do the job. You'd be surprised that the V8's are quite a bit shorter in length, and it provides quite a bit more room to fit things in.

I know that the Infinity has been done before, I wold stear clear of the Lexus V8 in a Skyline due to licensing issues.

hitnrun, thanks for the tip with performance forums

GTS-t Vspec, once you have photos etc can you email me.

also, any opinions about which would be the better motor VH45 or VH41.

also any ideas about availability of aftermarket internals for either of these motors???

thanks for the juice so far

rod

BigRod,

The car is at the tuners at the moment, so the pics may be another few days coming, but I'll post them for everyone.

I know that for the 1UZ there are lots of aftermarket parts, including a 5litre strocker kit, hell yeah.

For the Nissan engines there are some aftermarket stuff, but you would be better off having it custom made in Oz. For huge horsepower then the 1UZ is hard to pass on, with bullet proof internals, 6 bolt mains etc, and a host of aftermarket gear.

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
    • Ok, disregard my “rate them” comment, sorry for my unrealistic input
