Could be... could also be the car has had its km's wound back and is way over due for its 100,000km service which is why its reccomended to do all the belts as soon as you get the car.

If you spin a bearing its engine out, rebuild time.

99% certainty it hasn't done 99,000km.. even though it still does look "clean" and spotless.. so does an aussie car that has done 150,000km

Take it to a proper garage, that *knows rb26dett's* and get it inspected fully.. everybody can armchair guess for days on something like this and its not going to get you anywhere.

With this "spin a bearing" what happens ? do i drive along and the engine blows up or what ? can you get it fixed now ?

If your conrod bearings are worn or they pick up a little, the knock will get louder long before one ( usualy number 6) or more spin .

The engine will be fairly quiet when you first start it up ( cold thick oil ) then as it gets warmer it will knock more , if you spin a bearing it will sound more like a diesel (very loud ) and could say goodbay to your crank then . If you keep driving it with a spun bearing then you could break a rod and make a big mess .

I wouldn't bother driving 5hrs if thats the case.

Take it to any one you can trust that has experience with the good old VL or R31. The bottom ends are basically the identical when it comes to bits that go round and round, up and down.

another option is to drop the oil out and send it off for analysis, they will be able to tell you if there is a heap of bearing material in it....if not it is very unlikely to be a bearing....but if so.....

That's what I thought too, until a friend had his oil analysed after a slight knock developed. It came back all clear...no signs of metal.

50kms later the knock got far worse. The engine is out, but he hasn't stripped it yet, but it seems like the number 6 big end picked up.

I think i will get timing belt done ASAP because it has to be done and not drive the car to much. Also will do the oil change.

The noise came almost after the last oil change. Maybe its the oil ? Whats the best oil to put in a 16 year old RB26DETT ?

    • Hey Kaz, Unfortunately I am not at home currently and wont be for a few more months so I do not have access to my files or CAD. And at this point I prefer to keep the files to myself as I want to potentially make a few more pairs and see if they will sell within the EU before openly marketing them. But the way it's shaped and how small it is, I don't think you can fit both an indicator and a fog light onto the same surround, unless they were very small LED-type clusters.
    • I’ve just installed a Uniclutch sport into my R32. I’ve been blown away by it… it drives like a stock Toyota Corolla. It doesn’t make sense to me that a performance clutch can drive this well. I was about to pull the trigger on a Nismo Coppermix twin plate when I discovered the Uniclutch and decided to give that a shot instead. They’ve changed the game and I couldn’t be happier.    I was previously using an Extreme cushioned button clutch with lightened flywheel. I’m still using the same lightened flywheel with the Uniclutch.
