SiksII, what would you say the max boost is that the stock turbo can put out without failing?

i have a front mount and full exhaust, and i run no more than 10psi. u might be lucky at higher boost but i doubt it if you drive it hard.

with stock computer u will find it should run like crap at higher revs at more than 9 or 10psi so there is no point.

then again some stock ecu's seem to be ok with it. in fact i ran 14psi for 6 months (10,000kms) on my old gts-t before realising :D and it was ok but i would not risk it on my new one.

You might have a metal turbine, i do, my car was in good nik aswell so the old owner did it for longgevity in the turbo at high boost, and if the car was looked after in jap it may have been done, 14psi your plugs and coils would need more attention + have you gaped your plugs

I would suggest that you use the search function..

Your running a 12 year old car, that you from the looks of it have only just purchased. You don't know the history of this car and you think that it's mechanically sound because your an apprentice...

Unless you pull the whole engine block apart and take a look at it your never going to be sure.. most people here run about 10psi.. if you searched you'll find it eaily enough.. if you stuff your turbo, you'll have to fork out for a new turbo + possibly engine repairs..

I doubt your getting to > 180km/h - while on the dyno my car hit the 180km/h limit but didn't even feel like it was, that was in 4th..

As for fuel - everyone on here runs premium fuel that's not going to do crap to save you.. if your car is old or something isn't quite working and you modify it without the correct backups you'll run into issues..

Instead of boosting the turbo - maybe look at getting a new FMIC, an SAFC2, couple of other things, check out the car on the dyno - than wind it up.. that way you can track the A/F ratios and get a decent tune.. at the moment it'll be running very rich, with a proper tune you could prob get as much power out of the stock turbo settings than you just winding it up to 10psi..

are you really doing 180 ?

when they are imported they are fitted with an 180km speed limiter as part of compliance, this is easily bypassed and removed, so its possible that its removed, technically u shouldnt be able to top out 4th (on a manual)

which i have never tried, cause those speeds on the road are a little bit stupid u know ...

It has nothing to do with compliance, the 180kph speed cut is a standard function of the ecu from the factory. It can be bypassed easily by cutting wire 53 (speed input signal) on the ecu. Also if you fit a speed convertor so the display is in mph, this will raise the limit to 180mph.

As for boost on a standard turbo, I wouldn't go past 10psi, if you go much higher a standard ecu will increase the fueling and retard the ignition meaning you will be getting less power not more. Also at higher boost you will be running the turbo out of it's efficiency range meaning inlet temps will go through the roof, and the tiny side mount intercooler will not be able to cope. The high intake temp will mean you will very likely get detonation and bye-bye piston ring lands.

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.

    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
