Hey guys.... cars about to be tuned when a couple of little issues are fixed up, but was wondering how the std coilpacks will hold up with near 300rwkw on an S1 rb25 ??

never had any problems with them as yet but its prob got just under 200kw.

just hoping they hold up for a while .. thinking of ordering some split fire coils through nengun .. so trying to think ahead so i get em/have em when i need them.

let us know what you guys think.

cheers

Well from my experience they wont but I guess thats only cause mine are probably cracked being 10 years old an all. You will be able to run a bigger gap in your plugs with splitfires which should deliver a cleaner spark but I dont think they will be nessary unless they are cracked or something.

I opted not to get them, then on the day of tuning (gt30) anything over 14 psi made huge flat spots with a spark plug gap of .6 ??? So now I have to wait another month before I can get the tune done again :{

I did get 260rwkw at 16 psi at one point though, so at least it showed what it will be capable of.

will have to see how it goes when on the dyno ... hopefully mine aren't cracked and i wont NEED to get the soon .. but will be something i'll have to look at later on down the track.

cheers

i ran out 360rwkw @ last years salon. Walk in the park for em

The coils were still fine and dandy.

The car was just about out of ignition though, hence the need for more spark but that wasnt coil related.

As ive said before, people think the splitfires are awesome etc. And they are cheap, but they arent any different to stock, as another thread with some specs showed.

People only think there are "heaps" better because they are new and the ones you'll have are 10years old.

Of course something brand new is gonna work better (generally)

So IMO, get it all together and just see if they are a problem.

More than likely they wont be and you save $600 :P

Can't argue with that. :O

Splitfire coils aren't going to give you any more spark performance then standard non damaged Nissan coils will on the standard ignition system.

Its just that its common for standard coils to crack/fracture and the spark jumps out instead of the full energy going across the plug gap.

You might be buying coils that are designed to be more robust and resistant to the engine heat, but to think your getting any significant improvement in spark energy is wrong.

If you want more spark you need a CDI system.

Reasonbly expensive and only needed at high power outputs.

Probally depends on the type of ecu you use as to which will give the best results. Best to talk to engine tuner about your options, if you need this type of ignition system.

had a look at Nengun and saw those ingnition booster from Ultra ..

just cant imagine or see how these would wire into the std configuration .. unless they are used similar to the MSI style ignition where leads are required..

any ideas Nismoid???

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
