R32_NthQLD
hey guys, im about to buy my first import car soon, and ive made the desicion to buy an R32 GTS-t, i love there looks and the power Trouble is getting an insurance quote for it, as my last car was a VS commodore(i know.....not great) its proving to be hard for me to find out just how much its gonna cost me for comprehensive insurance i know that because im under 25 the insurance would be huge, but thankfully my parents have agreed for me to put it in their name so if any body knows what kind of figure ill be looking at it'd be a big help, thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/ Share on other sites
dezz
use the online quote form from just cars' website im 19 and an R33 GTS-T will cost me $2200ish to insure. putting it in your parents name is all good and well, but a) you wont get a rating, and B) if the insurance company finds out it was you driving and not your parents...no insurance for you Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644636 Share on other sites
R32_NthQLD
Haha, thanks man.....i can live with me being a part time driver, 2200 is just to much to pay seeing the cars only gonna cost me 10 000 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644658 Share on other sites
dezz
just get third party then, at least you'll get a rating for yourself, otherwise when you finally do get full comp, its gonna cost a shit load anyway coz you'll be a rating 6 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644672 Share on other sites
xRHETTx
So how old exactly are you? 18? or older? There is a big difference between being 18 and a bit older. Also, do you have an insurance history, (a no-claims bonus or rating?) That will help too. And forget about putting it in your parents name or being listed as a part time driver, IMPORT INSURANCE DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT. If you are listed, even as a part driver, they will base the quote on you driving it the whole time. To give you some idea, i have an r32 gtst and it cost me: Age: 21 Rating: 3 (40% ncb) Value: $16500 Cost: $1700 Age: 22 Rating: 2 (50% ncb) Value: $16000 Cost: $1200 Age: 23 Rating: 1 (60% ncb) Value: $15000 Cost: $900 So there you go. R32_NthQLD
yeah i spose your right, id prefer to have my own rating.....and i cant afford that insurance so your right, CTP will probly be the way to go till i start earning a bit more money, do you think the insurance would drop tho if i had a 4 door model in stead, i heard there is a big difference between prices for 2 and 4 door? R32_NthQLD
well im nearly 18, and going into a full time job so i thought it was about time to upgrade to something decent....so there is a pretty big difference between import and local insurance eh? xRHETTx
Depends what you are comparing it with. If you wanted a VT SS commodore or something i guess the insurance would be pretty similar? R32_NthQLD
Yeah u could put it that way, but with the way the laws looking at younger drivers, as long as its got a turbo a blower or bent 8, insurance is gonna split you Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644713 Share on other sites
Modena
Maybe you ought to drive the commodore for a bit longer (i drive a VS atm and they arent bad cars at all) and when you turn 25 buy a turbo. Im 25 and been lately looking into imports (s15, r33 and r34 turbos) Just car gave me this: 1996 NISSAN SKYLINE GTST HR33 TURBO F/IN 2D COUPE (IMPORT) T Amount Covered $19,000 Comp insurance: $971 Endorsements • The following item(s) must be fitted to your car for your car to be covered in the event of theft or attempted theft: AUST STANDARD 2PT IMMOBILISER. • Any repair we authorise to your vehicle will be delayed if parts are unavailable locally and need to be imported. • Vehicle Excess $700 So its very cheap. R34 GT-T was 1030 fully covered and s115 was around the same. How long till your 25? dezz
excess for under 25 works out to be a total of about $1500 also...so that can sting, unless its to get a full payout on $18,000 worth of car Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644748 Share on other sites

How long till your 25? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well for starters, i loved my VS, it was a great car and gave me very little problems its just the fact that there are so many on the street i just dont feel like pouring money into it so people can say...hey its another commodore, besides my friend bought it off me so i have 5 grand to play with and i decided either an r32 or an s13, as for 25? im just getting on 18 so i wish i was in the same situation as you but im not, and the unfortunatly, i dont want to wait till im 25 to drive my favourite car, becuase by then fuel could be 2.50 a litre and it will just be impossible to run, so unless by a miracle, that comprehensive insurance will be around the 1000 dollar mark, i will have to go down teh CTP route, but thanks for the information any way, every little bit helps when buying an import Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/91307-r32-gts-t-insurance/#findComment-1644750 Share on other sites

People blow thousands of dollars on cigarretes a year alone, that could be your insurance money and rego! Just be smart with money, cut corners with everyday things and you can save up pretty much for anything well thats not true but you get my drift. Your 18 so i doubt u have much to finance apart from uni/tafe/going out and the puss. Just dont fall into some finance problem where u cant pay off the loan etc. a 12 K car for a uni student that has a part time job and lives at home is ok but a 30 K car can be a problem. In other situ a dude that gets good money from full time job but has an interest in buying a house soon or has a wife well its pointless to buy a nice car cos hes made a selection to get married ie broke hehe well not qieuit cos if they young they can both buy the car as their budget has just doubled but that all depends on the girl very much, ie if shes into family shit then forget about cars and go out and buy a pram!
