13.4 second 1/4 for your 'stockish' R33. (A how to guide).

i got a 13.981 at calder last night... could have probably done better, but happy for a first real strip run. Set my 235/45 tyres to 16psi and I have pineapples on the back - seem to have less traction probs than some of the other gts-t boys who also ran.

What mods do you have??

a few :P its not really "stockish" though as the thread indicates...ah well..

S-AFC, cold air intake, dump pipe, hi-flow CAT, HKS Super Dragger II cat-back, blitz pod, HKS FMIC, ProfecB EBC, heavy duty clutch, pineapples, zeal coilovers, falken 235/45R17.. stock ECU, stock Turbo @ 13psi

i think some heat buildup and trying a bit too hard could have effected my later runs.. i'm gonna wrap some of my piping soonish to maybe fix that for next time.

thanx :( other runs were around mid-14 at higher MPH (~100).

Its all in the takeoff, which i'm sure you know, but its definitely what I found out on friday. The difference between a 14 sec run and a 13 second run is all in a good takeoff.

Easier just to just post the timesheet with the 60', etc.

If I can get that a bit lower (which I think I can next time), I think I may be able to get about a 13.6 or something with a perfect launch and my current mods. I'll be happy with that until I one day I upgrade the turbo, ecu and maybe a couple of other things which should push me into the 12's. 12's for a daily driver that is RWD would be pretty nice I reckon :(

anyway, enough about me.. back to general discussion

yeah.. other runs were worse launches, but better shifting after that, resulting in higher top speed of around 101mph

If i can pull both off in the one run i'll get somewhere around the mid-13 i think as well.. tyre pressure could have been a bit low @ 16psi for street tyres??

I ran 14.370 @ 98.79, 60' 2.407 with a pod (no cai) and a 3" cat back zorst. I believe that 60' time could come down a few tenths with a bit of practice (I only had 3 runs on the day).

I just dont get it. predator666 you've got some decent mods I'm guessing they'd be around $2k rrp? Surely to goodness your $2k mods are more than 0.3sec better than my $400 mods? It looks like you can launch it better than I can also.

A question for all: How much did you spend (and on what), and what affect did it have on your times???

Most of the stuff came on my car.. but if u added them up prolly $6000-$7000 or so :P read back a page for the full list. 0.3 is a reasonable difference.. and 1 second is a massive difference in terms of what you need to do to your car most of the time.

That run i felt like a pretty perfect launch, and i took it a lot more easy on the gear changes afterwards. Maybe i backed off right at the end? (no idea). Anyway, its all in the timesheet up above, i'm no expert, and i don't remember every single detail! I only had about 4 runs.. next time i go, i'll hopefully have some more runs, and hopefully get a better time as a result of the practise.

Waming up your tyres with a burnout is good for show, but not really going to help you on street tyres.

I ran at eastern creek again last night and got a 13.102 @ 108.46 mph, killing my old time of 13.7 @ 105. I was much happier. My 60ft this time was much better, of 2.114 over 2.365.

I walked away grinning from ear to ear (I was hoping for a 13.4) :) :) .

I have standard internals, injectors and fuel pump. I am running a custom plenum, XF trottle body, FMIC, EMS management, high flowed turbo (metal wheels, no bb centre), running 17psi boost, exhaust, etc.. The tyres are 255/35R18 Fulda street tyres let down to 20psi.

Here is a pic of my engine bay,

They are close but still handling it. We have looked at them closely on the Dyno, but they are still upto the task at the moment. I am looking at a bigger turbo at the moment, so I will have to do something about the fuel system soon.

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
