So here we are. After many years of idle dreaming it looks increasingly likely that I will be able to buy my dream car - an R-32 GT-R.

Unfortunately I am somewhat of a newbie and although I am feverishly pouring over manuals, pictures and the forums I am still somewhat uncomfortable in the buying process.

So I guess my question is, whether there is some independent expertise out there that could be brought along to have a look at a car (private or yard) that would be able to say "That's a good one" or "Don't touch this one because...." - basically a 'Buyer's advocate' - a service provider that is happy to charge a suitable fee to offer independent advice on a car.

Any ideas ??

All answers and guidance appreciated (Even "You're dreaming" ;-)

BTW - not looking for highly modified example, rather a clean one instead (or even 'one of the 100' )

Well listen - if there is a local one you are interested you'll always find someone from the club that will be happy to go with you and check it out. Otherwise one of the main workshops will do it for you - like Racepace, Ice Performance, AVO etc. Someone recently had one checked out.... somewhere (I can't remember where) and was impressed with their service. Hopefully they'll post up to remind me! LOL

But as I said if you know of a car post it up and when you are going to go check it out and chance are someone from here can tag along. I know a few of us have been happy to check out a few for people in the past.

Cheers.

That's some of the best news I've heard yet (phew)

Being new to the community, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I will certainly keep this in mind and will take up the offer when the time comes.

Currently I am (realistically) looking at a purchase sometime early next year when my new house is finished (and the left over money can contribute to the deposit ;-)

I have recently bought a 1994 R32 GT-R and had AVO in Cheltenham check it out for me before handing over the cash.

They are straight up and do pre-purchase inspections all the time.

Give Steve Coates a call at AVO when you are ready to buy.

Regards

Andrew

Best way to do things:

1/ Start casually looking now, even with a mate. Just look for general things. This will give you an idea of condition and prices.

2/ Once you have found a car (early next year) get someone here to have a look. There are plenty of ppl here (myself included) willing to help a fellow Skyline enthusiest.

3/ Just b4 handing over the deposit, take it to a well known w/shop to go over car thoughly. Compresion & leak-down check, suspension & handling check, dyno run and to put it up on a hoist.

hi there.

i met an engineer who worked on track/race GTRs in a automotive book store a while back. he's not just a mechanic, but a qualified engineer.

when looking for my r32 gts-t, me and my father were able to tell what was trash and what was good... but we're no experts, so we had him come and check out the potential buys. ended up only having him check out 2 cars.

what seemed to be an alright car to us, was actually not. he picked up on things we couldn't. they included loose lifters, a good quality respray of the rear quarter and many other subtle things.

the second car was quality and i bought it.

His name is adrian lovelace and his mobile is 0418336319. we worked out a casual hourly rate. it paid for itself because the problems arising from a car we may have bought would have cost in the future.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
