Hey Guys

Im new to the forums. I am think about buying a R33 skyline GTS-T. THe delema im currently having is wether to buy from a dealer or private. I went on the weekend and had a look at a few dealers the best been SEI motors in Dandenong. They had a good selection and i found one i liked and a good price as well. I just wanted to know what was the best way to go. Im trying to way up my options and at the moment it sounds like the dealer is the best way to go because of the warranty.

thanks for your help

Wes

look around at a heap of private cars before buying from a dealer and then work out if what they are selling is a good price.

a lot of the time they are well overpriced, and the warranties are not really worth much from what i've heard. very hard to get anything out of a dealer once they have your money.

do a search of the forum, should be plenty of helpful info here mate :D

private sale will yield you a better car and at a cheaper price. the warranty from the dealership is useless and not worth the extra $. you can get 3rd car warranties anyway but again not required. private sale should be your best bet and get someone from sau to go along with you to check out a car with you, two heads are better than one. also take pics of the car when you look at it so you can look at stuff when you get home if you forget to check stuff

yeah go private sale. you will get more for your money. i speak from experiance when i say, the warranty is a scam read the fine print. I think it clearly states that it a scam and that the salesman that was so nice, will just yell abuse at you for even asking about the warrenty. The only reason you should buy from a dealer is if your trading in a car, that for some reason u are unable to sell.

When i went to Sei they had a 94 GTS-T with mags, sway bar, exhaust for $15900.00. It wasnt complinced yet but i could only see one scratch on the car and that was on the front bar. Everything else was stock. There was no CD player but it did have a turbo timer. and some speakers the parcel shelf was crap though. He said if i was a serious buyer he could drop the price even more.

He also showed me all the things that need to be changed for it to be complinced. it has 77000 on the clock.

I have also seen a few private ones for $14000.00 it had the same mods but it had 112000k on the clock. it was also a 94 black GTS-T. Another was silver with similar mods for $13800.00. but it had a series 2 front.

Do they all come with four wheel steer or is that an option. most of the private one say four wheel steer. The reason i ask is because i have heard there are a few probs with the four wheel steer.

thanks again

i thought that that included compliancing and everything. No wonder he dropped the price straight away it was $15,990 he then dropped it to $14,990.

Ok i learning so the total price would be $17,990. Now i understand so that how you get the better deal privately. :D

are you in melb? if you want we (or me) can came along to some private sale cars to help you check them out. avoid dealer cars they are rigged and overpriced. for $17,990 you could land a 96 series 2 in stock condition, or should be able to get very close. imho s2 96 will be stacks better than a 94 model series1.

i got my 96 gts-t model for 16k complienced n rwc from a dealer..with warranty. The body on mine is unmarked no scrathes dints, nothing!

3wks back my timing belt snapped, so i called them up and they rebuild the engine (i bent the valves an a few other things) with no hassels at all, without that i would have been 3k outta pocket.

i was warned to change it from them aswell, but i thought, nah she will be fine, but now she is strong as ever.

also SEI motors own a mechanic place which is just across the road from them.. Be very careful with them i saw one car he had advertised adn when i went to look at it the front was really scratched, rust in the boot and under the doors that rail thing was all smashed in (looked like a fork lift hit it when unloading it) adn i go ar eyou gonna fix it if i buy it and he goes no ill just put skirts on for you...i jsut walked off, i didnt want nothign to do with them.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
