Oh yeah! and then some..... tuned to mix it with 2005/6 spec R1's ZX10's GSX1000R's CBR1000's etc. With a set of cams and some port / polish head work, it'd be up to Aussie Superbike spec, but would need front Ohlins road race forks, which arnt cheap.

Spent 9k on the build over the past 2yrs, around 6k of that on ebay, with that 6k in theory being around 10k at normal trade prices from shopfronts. Ebay is a great way to buy when on a budget. I loved doing the build up, was fun fun fun.

But in all honesty I needed a wagon for the 2 kiddies, dog, wife combo, and always wanted an R33 coupe since the mid-90's.... I toyed with an R34 4-door tiptronic idea, but couldnt justify flogging off my 4door VR SS for another 4door, so a Stagea for under 18k was a perfect compromise.

Already spent 5k odd on the wagon, and counting. Stagea is being tuned tomorrow on the dyno (fri 25/11), there's another 1k; will post dyno printout in the Stagea section.

live on ppl's, Brendan

I did too....seriously :P

lol! Sorry, Ive been working on the man-boobs, but they arnt that great as yet. Didnt mean to dissapoint......

Yup Iceduck, more than welcome! help you sort out a bargain for sure - buying bikes with someone elses money rocks! Plus its great to have 4 or 6 eyeballs go over a bike, not just your 2.

Maybe hide it from the missus at a mates house - works for a while at least. I hide my bike and fact that I rode from my old's for a few months, until I got the guts to admit to my devilish ways.

Had to do something though, knees ruined whatever footy goals I had (was almost there, training 5 nights a week and playing Sat & Sundays), and bike riding is simply the best thing Ive EVER done for myself.

As far as staying alive, yeah 2nd kid on the way in 6 weeks time, so theres an added incentive. Means you ride at 80% and use the grey matter that sits (rusting away) upstairs, not 100% flatstick like the GhostRider.

Cheers for the comments, anyone else here ride at all (on road)?

lol, nice work! =)

Tip, always wear safety gear! If you must do jeans, get some Draggin jeans with kevlar seat and knees (Levis disintergrate at 5kmph).

Ankle high boots are important (to catch bone fragments in an accident), and gloves, well, whats the first thing you put on the ground when you fall over?

Very nice on 2 counts. Ohlins make a bloody huge difference, bought an ex-race one for the back of the CBR 600 I used have. It was like night and day. Mind you that was going from tired standard shock to Ohlins.

Have you ever done any track days? If you ever get a chance do a ride day at the Island, effing awesome. I did a couple when I was living in Melbourne. You shit yourself first time you go (Almost highsided at Honda corner on my first out lap, apparently looked very spectacular from behind) but the second time was the most fun I have ever had on a bike.

Stagea is very nice indeed. Practical but very cool in one package.

By the way, don't EVER sell the bike. Been through the whole 2 kids, not using it enough, need some cash deal. You WILL regret it.

Cheers

Yah Geoff, done that twice now due to major knee surgeries and birth of 1st kid. Sold up and regretted it big time. Trying to save for a Ohlins rear (front is sorted nicely, rear spring is perfect but shock is gone), but spending too much on the Stagea too quickly.

Been in full leg braces, 24/7, no weight bearing, no movement at all etc. Done that for 9months in two stints. Not fun, even worse when youve sold up and your mates ride past to rub it in. 2nd time was rebuilding the engine, so gave me something to look forward to.

Havent done PI yet, will do it one day, knee stops me from riding more than a few hundred kms in a few hrs though. Too much pain when lumping my 2metre frame on such a small pocket bike for too long.

Wont comment on Mallala or Mt Gambier tracks, as Ive stated some speed figures here on the forum, so if I get in 'trouble' I can say easily "it was all on the track" and be aok. I think. Or I could say Im full of it????

hehehe :P

Have to say rooted knees and a Blade doesn't sound like a very pleasant combo. Not the worlds most comfy riding position.

Have you tried wreckers on the east coast for the rear shock? Best thing about Ohlins is they are rebuildable. Perhaps even try one the car importers for one in Japan. Just a thought.

Can honestly say that I actually feel safer going quick on a bike than I ever have in a car. This may be because I'm slightly deranged. But there is always a time and a place for any such foolishness. :P

Talk about sliding, I 'learnt' to ride on a '96 ZX7R Ninja, in the wet (which I loved, before kids at least), that thing would back in the rear into corners, and you could just 'feel' everything it was doing.

Motard riders are a tad crazy though! You gotta be to put slicks on a dirt bike.

Got an exemption from 250cc's after around 6months of riding a little GPX250, used to bottom out the rear on every ride. Was just to silly-big for it. Sold ZX7R, unhappily, due to major knee ops, then grabbed a '98 ZX9R, very nice, not as good though as the '98 CBR900RR though.

Yup, WAY safer going fast on a bike then fast in a car. Cant explain it, you all gotta try it for yourselves.

Still searching ebay for a nice rear shock, but the Stagea is begging for more money as well....... =) What to do?

:P Brendan

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
