Probably bland in terms of factory styling, compared to this day and age - to something like a 350z, or any of the other 'euro-styled' cars.

And I do agree. But whack a kit on there and they look awesome. I think someone should take one of those guys for a spin in their gtr, and do a launch from 7K. Then see how uninspiring the car truly is :P

the R32 looked alot nicer than the VN Commodores...

VN_Commodore_Picture.jpg

You cannot possibly compare an R32 to the VN Commodore. The VNs revolutionary styling was a design so far ahead of its time that you can only compare it to the most modern vehicle designs of today. Its style is only comparable to the newest and most stylistic concept cars such as...

mitsu-d5h-001s.jpg

...the low, sleek and curvaceous Mitsubishi Concept D5, a true modern super car...

nissan-pivob-9730s.jpg

...and the swooping retro-modern looks of the Nissan Pivo Concept, which was designed with strong aerodynamic considerations in mind, and high focus on top end performance.

It's incredible interior versitility is better than most modern people carriers, and is only beaten by the recent Honda Wonderful Openhearted Wagon concept due to it having a dedicated dog storage compartment, a feature clearly lacking in the VN Commodore and the designers have regretted the omission since its launch in the late 1980's.

The concept cars could never match the VN Commodores incredible performance from its powerhouse V8, which is comparable to modern hyper cars such as the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg CCR, and the pushrod V6 offered fuel economy in the same league as the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Volkswagen Lupo 3L TDi.

Please think more carefully before making such comparisons. You don't know who might be offended by your careless comments.

So yeah the R32 is clearly bland

The impression I get is that the guys is talking about GTRs. Probably means they are bland for a sports car of that price.

Not exactly fair to compare it to a VN, a relatively cheap family sedan. It is best compared to other sports cars around the same time and preferably about the same price range.

Example 1990 GTR:

Examples of some other 1990 sports cars:

I think its safe to say pop-up lights were popular in 1990.

different strokes for different folks i guess... who knows? the company that wrote this article may be "anti nissan" or push another brand of car ie get paid heaps of money from holden to talk up their cars and cover bag the rest out...

i read in one of these pro holden magazines that the xr6T get like 18-20L/100km and the xr8 gets like 24L/100Km while their new 6 litre shitbox gets 12L/100k...

pro ford magazines will tell you the opposite... (cant tell im a ford man lol)

so yeh see what cars they talk up and see what cars they are advertising in big letters on every page... there might be some relationship

its all about money

He said the article was in cars guide, which would be out of Daily Telegraph in sydney and Herald Sun in melbourne.

Its owned by News Corp. I seriously doubt there is any cash for comment going on. Id say its just the writers personal opinion, theres probably other motor journos at that same paper who think the GTR is anything but bland.

Surprising...most ppl love the 32 GTR Shape.

It's funny if you ask a complete random, who knows nothing about Skylines, to guess what year the car is......ususally they say 94-95 model. Boy are they shocked when you tell em that the car was released by Ford in 89.

Meh reporter is probably a bogan.

i read that article... they said it had awesome perfomance but only gave the GTR 13/20!!! BS!!!

exactly what i thought when i read the article.

from what i read there was very little other than the "bland styling" (pffft) which they saw as a negative. how the hell did it get a 13? the week before a barina ended up getting 14/20... :)

idiots....

After reading the article i think its quiet easy to come to the conclusion the writer didn't actual go and drive a GTR but rather wrote it based on some crap research proberly off the net.

Did anyone think it was weird that they didn't show any pics of a 34 ??

it clearly looks the best of the three!!

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
