I am just wondering what is the minimial voltage require to power on a pionner head unit? Sometime when I switch my car to ACC the head unit is not power up?

I checked my voltage of my battery through my turbo timer when the key is on ACC. Its reading something like 10.8 to 11.99.

There cant be any problem with the connection as if i turn on the car off and again a couple of time, the power of the head unit come on..

Hope someone can answer my question as it pain to drive with out music

cheers

as I said to you in person. the whole thing will have to come out and from there it can be diagnosed. honestly sounds like a bad connection to me. the face dropping down is what baffled me as they generally don't do it. most of the raidos wont operate below 11v and if they do its not for long.

Will call u sometime to organise for you to come down to have alook at the same time fix up my sub and amplifer.

Is it normal for the battery to have less than 11v when on ACC?

What should be the normal voltage of the battery if on ACC and not engine not on.

If my engine is running the battery is reading 13.76 - 14 v

What do I need to get or do inorder to make my battery have 12v when it on ACC??

Would like to get all the stuffs required by you ( maybe those that u dun provide ) ready

Cheers

yer could be the battery... maybe its not taking full charge on its way out like ben l said check the voltage directly from the battery... i member my wagon used to cut the amps out then the radio when it was low so yeh id pinpoint it on the battery... do you drive the car alot or only once a week or so??? had any recent electrical mods that may be drawing more power and possibly drawing power when your car is off??? wen i bought my other car it hadnt been started in two weeks or so and the alarm drained the charge... usually once the battery has been drained real slowly you can kiss the battery goodbye its not worth the inconvenience

i the battery is new and the battery voltage is measuring 11.99... I only drive the car during the weekend and most of the time when i first start the car from home, the head unit works.. Then if i start it again from some time later in the day, the head unit just dun start...

If i switch to ACC a couple of time, the head unit works again however without images.... Then I need to pull out the face unit and attach it back and the images come back...

Chris Rogers said that it might be something to do with the connection of the head unit which i guess he is right...

I am goining to call him up when i sometime to fix it up hee hee....

He is good!!!!

I usually run my HU's directly from the battery (well, with a fuse etc) because I've found sometimes the normal wiring doesn't give enough power.

Also the Pioneers are funny sometimes. Both of mates have them and they do funny things like that with power. Try running a fused power cable straight from your battery and leave the ACC hooked to the ACC as per normal. Reset the thing as well.

Good luck.

i have a similar problem... the flap on my hu sometimes will not go down... i need to check the earth as i think it can also effect the head unit...

My Flap will go down everytime I off my engine ... Then it will close up after a while ( like a few second )

So are you still using the Pionner HU now?? Does running a fused power cable straight from the battery fixed the problem for you?

Cool will ask chris roger to do that for me while fixing up the amp and sub

Thanks

Yes I still use a pioneer. I don't have the model that has the motorised face that's in my flatmates car. I never had this problem.

Chris knows what he is doing you can just leave it to him :P

    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
    • Neg, the top one is actually for the front. The sizes are 18x10.5 +18 and 18x11 +32.   I measured many times but I'm sure I'll have problems as this is the thread for problems.
    • Just one thing; tapping tapered threads is tricky. Taps are always tapered and you would generally run it as far as you can, but with a tapered thread you have to stop much sooner otherwise the wide part of the taper will run in too far and you will have to thread the sensor in too far too as well (possible that it will never make a good seal) BTW nice wide wheels, I guess the top one is for the back!
    • Welp, good to know. Will have to wait awhile until steady hands with drills and taps are available. In other news, these just arrived! I will weigh them for posterity. Edit: 11kg each (or 10.9/11.1 depending on what my scale decides over multiple tests, the 18x11 don't seem to weigh noticeably any more than 10.5)
