Frustratingly, page CH-282 didn't end up scanned into the GTR .pdf and I'm stuck trying to remove the rear calipers.

There are four bolts on the back of the caliper. The two leading the brake line were fine.

There are another two, the main mounting bolts (17mm from memory) and just in a bugger of a spot and you need to get all the force you can onto them. The breaker bar won't fit and the shifter is out of travel. These suckers are on tight.

Any suggestions please guys? Other than WD40 a few times?

Thanks

Mark

I know this wont help you, but I've never had a problem getting at them with a spanner?

Tight old bolts...you can always try *gentle* persuasion with a rubber mallet if the spanner is on nice and straight.

Another way to get more leverage is put a second spanner thru the open end of the spanner you are rusing to create a nice long arm, will quickly tell you if your spanners are good quality or not :P

If none of those, oxy torch to heat it up but be really careful of the brake lines

Thanks Duncan. I managed to crack the bolts a little while ago - the WD40, a ring spanner and a bit of beefcake managed to do the trick. I like the mallet idea - I ended up using the mallet and a small screwdriver to tap the pistons out that last little bit.

I bent the arm on one of my socket set attachments getting the front bolts undone :P It was the tool that has the drive sliding along the rod. I slipped a piece of water pipe on the end and the extra leverage just bent the damn rod! Sorted it, once again, with more swearing and beefcake.

I was more stressed about stripping the head of the bolt.

Mine were really tight the first time I took them off.

Yep the 17s were the painful ones. The only fix was a the ol' long pipe if you squeeze your arse the right way they will crack undone, but best done on a hoist to get the right angle for leverage.

The bolt won't strip if you have good tools.

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
