I had a powerfc, avcr and fmic installed, plugs changed from iridium’s to coppers and my car tuned. r34 GTT btw.

Before I had this done I had misfiring problems at 4-5k rpm, after it was done there was no misfiring.

This was about one and a half months ago, and now I have started getting the misfiring again.

Have the plugs worn out so quickly?

I can’t think what else it would be.

What were the plugs gapped to?

best all round gap is 0.8mm. If its not your plugs it will in most cases be your coil packs. I know this happens often on series 1's (the missfire).

Spook's skyline i would gap them to 0.8mm but if you have something different and its running fine i would not bother chaging it.

im not sure what my problem is

car shudders (feels like a miss) when fully on it changing into second, its hte only time it does it;

im about to get the car serviced, so was just oging to my mechanic to check teh gaps;

any new info on this thread? did u fix the problem...

i just got my 100k service on my r32 its got exhaust, pod, fmic and 13psi and i just had iridium plugs put in...

it has a very slight miss on idle and is now misfiring and popping in 2nd gear when i boot it.

i immediatly thought it was the plug gap and havent checked it yet. so if someone has done this and it fixed it lemme know!

cheers

i ran my car on 1.1mm iridiums at pretty much the same boost

used to get a slight miss, which got a bit worse when it got colder

i taped up the coil packs so they wouldn't arc, and it seemed to work

eventually i just replaced the coil packs with brand new splitfires, worked a treat after that

even ran ok pulling ~1bar at 1.1mm, though i'm planning on running more with my new turbo and shit

i have a series 1 r33 and i had a slight miss after 4500-5000rpm through the gears and under full load.

i fitted some iridium plugs gapped to 0.8mm and it runs perfect now.

car only has a cat back exhaust and a pod. stock boost....

I am changing my plugs tommorrow, will let you know if it fixes it.

The missfire is really bad. Goes from 4-5k all the way to redline.

This started within a week of taking my car to a workshop to have my dump pipe wrapped in heatape. They forgot to do it when I had all the original work done.

But they messed me around and were very rude and to top it off didnt even do the heat tape properly. They only did the bottom half of the dump which is not were you even need it.

I am paranoid thinking they did something to make my car missfire... Is this possible?

I just dont understand how I could have problems only 1 and a half months after new plugs were installed and the car was tuned.

I run NGK 6 coppers and leave them in for ~30,000km's.

The plugs that come out at 30,000km's work just as well as the new plugs.

$16.80 for 6 from motor traders, you can't go wrong.

I've had problems with copper plugs that have done 50,000km's. No major problems, starting became difficult.

Put in a new tank of fuel and all missfire problems seemed to have stopped????

new set of plugs are gapped at 0.8 and sitting on my kitchen table, they never got installed.

I just noticed splitfire coil packs have dropped in price on nengun, so might wait and see how it goes and get some if it keeps playing up.

I just hope it stays good. woooooo

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
