last nite i was dragging mmy mates wrx

out back of werribee we got a few 1/4 miles marked out

me being stock and all and his wrx having full 3 inch exhuast from turbo and boosted up..

off course i thought he was gonna kick my arse but i never back down from a drag race..

so anyways on take of he kicked my arse im talking 2-3 car lenthgs

i was wheel spining way to much where he just took of.. damn AWD

but still as we went on i started catchin him.. at the end of the 1/4 mile i was practically dead even with him..

but the question is......

WHATS DA BEST WAY OF GETTING TRACTION?? is it the plane and simple answer of geting some 255 wheels at da back.. or is there any other tricks of da trade>????

i tried taking of in 2nd gear like what we do in my mates VL but the skylines seem to buckle down and dont like it much..

Traction is not about RWKW, in fact the more kw the more harder to get the traction issue right. IF in 1st gear, doen't rev it past 4k max, it all about ballancing the power delivery. Maybe try to use your hand brake to launch, this way your engine is loaded (thus starting to spool the turbo, and yes you may be riding the clutch a little. This is just my opinion i would also like to read others.

If you've got the $$$ get some good tyres on the back, it'll make a big difference.

I'm not talking 255 rubber, just a really good tyre. I got a set of 901's on the back and they are so much better than what I had.

Pineapples are apparently a good thing too (they are on my 'to do' list). Reduces axel tramp and gives better grip.

Funny that your GTS-t is stock, and after the 1/4 mile it's even with a silghtly modded WRX - I love it :D

You gotta learn not floor it during take off and hold the enthusiasm a bit at bay. Flooring it off the line isn't the best in a RWD. Wait until you're moving a bit then fully give it the boot.

Handbrake starts for me just result in more wheelspin...

Deffinetly get some "PINEAPPLES". These things will cost you $120 delivered from Meggala and Dr_Drift yet they are worth soooo much more.

Considerably removed my axle tramp and my car is 500% better off the lights and around short fast corners the rear end sticks.

You can read my small review

I _should_ be getting my car back tonight with the pineapples. I'll post how it goes post-pineapple. Soon everybody will have 'em :)Mine generally bounces around like a m/****er and goes nowhere on high boost if i don't do it properly.

    • Whilst the brewery had good beer, I didn't rate the pork knuckle, the meat was good, but, there was no crackling, the skin was just thick and chewy Will return at some stage for the beer, but, I will wash the beer down with chips Plus, no sauerkraut, in what world do people serve pork knuckle without sauerkraut, they did serve apple slaw with it, which was nice, but.......#sauerkraut the world
    • Wow yeah ok. Given how specific you are about your car, I'm very surprised you are happy to do that.  As a bare minimum, without having a wideband gauge in the car or running it up on the dyno to check mixtures, there is no way I'd do that to my car.  You beat me to it, was going to say just this.
    • Yeah - that's not true. Larger turbos flow more at the same boost. By definition. I've always found it funny when the claim of same flow same power because same boost is made. The turbine is larger, therefore will put up a lower restriction to flow at any given flow, cf the stock one. Hence, you need less boost to make the same flow through the whole system. Hence, when you have the same boost as before, you must have more flow. -5s are a pretty decent bit bigger than stock.
    • That's basically how I've been driving my R33 for a while now. GTIII-SS running wastegate boost. It makes no more power than stock because the turbos aren't flowing any more air than stock. Eventually though I need to fix this so it can actually drive as it should.
    • If this was my own car, I would pull about 5 degrees off the CAS, run a wideband, and if that seems ok, send it.
