  1. Thanks for your prompt and comprehensive replies! regards, David.
  2. great thread. I'm thinking about a stagea myself. I've done a fair bit of research but can't seem to find running costs of a stagea. I want to purchase one and just drive it as is, no modifications. Are they higher maintenance than your average family car? If so is it possible to specify.. Parts: body & mechanical - readily available? Reliability: They seem to have a fairly good name among enthusiasts, but i've noticed enthusiasts tend to have a blind love and overlook the times their car needs to be off the road.. I've read buyers guide etc.. but your thoughts would be good on general reliability - sorry to hijack the thread, but i didnt want to start another 'new to stagea' topic :-) regards David
  3. love your work! Im not quite sure if i like the tinted front lenses, but anyhow they seem to suit the rest of the styling I've got some inspiration now to put some money aside for my 300c once i can drive again.
  4. thanks- i'll keep it in mind when i call around. depending on prices i get i might even try to get the engine/trans combo as i cant see the transmission going much further either at 350,000km hehe
  5. Well the car isnt at my house at the moment, partly because there is no space and partly to prevent me driving it but maybe this summer come around and we'll compare I'm actually trying to source a motor for it at the moment, as the timing belt pulley bearing broke and i got a new pulley and belt put on it but its had a miss in it since- im thinking maybe a bent valve somewhere.. i got a quote at 660 but that particular wreckers didnt have any in stock. i might ring the one in centre road, see how many kms are on the one u mentioned..
  6. No this one is still alive and kicking.. Well its alive, but not really kicking as i havent had a licence for a while now. I hope to be back driving it by november. Which wreckers was it..? (just incase i need anything off it )
  7. yeah i bought it of a dealer my friend knew who said it was traded in by some old bloke, so i got a pretty good price as they probably took it off his hands for next to nothing
  8. Just thought i'd post up a picture of my 1984 300c. I'm pretty happy with it so far (had it for 8 months) - and i've only seen 2 -3 others around Melbourne during that time. It runs the vg30e motor with a 4 speed auto. Gets up to 100 around the 10 sec mark, and handles really well too. Might do some sort of engine conversion later on, or just lower it slightly and give it a fresh paint job.
  9. 2,000 dollars sounds about right. thats what i got quoted from a mr. windscreens place. they do everything, windscreens, tinting, sunroofs, etc.
  10. those gen3's are so annoying ey :s i ran one, and beat him in first gear, but 2nd gear onwards they are just animals, unbelievable.
  11. i cant be bothered using chamois. I blitz a nearby freeway usually after doing a check first of course. Usually comes up really good.
  12. i wish i could take the one off my r33 its just an mpsec spoiler, but i think it would look too messy from close up due to the edges of the guards, tho i like the low boot lid look :s are they that easy to get on and off? i was pretty sure if it came standard there was glue as well as bolts..
  13. May be the water in your heater core making the sound.. dont ask me how though..
  14. Yeah i love those doors. might be a bit too much "look at me" for every day use, shopping etc. But they certainly look really cool! and for bolt on hinges 1500, no mods needed its great.
  15. ah yes, those back roads. dead straight, for the most part, dead flat. and as u mentioned, very long. affectionately known as the "top speed test road" good on you though for sticking to 100. Especially in a skyline, i guess its different on an organized cruise of course.
  16. The worst is having 2 spacer savers on the rears for burnouts. not good.
  17. welcome to the skyline scene. "i wanna buy a slightly tricked up skyline (eg. bov, exhaust, mabye computer, intake, timer etc) and then wanna do my own crap to it. some of the main points im trying to find out about is first.. 1. Is it better to fork out the extra $$$ for a series 2 skyline? wats the pros/cons? 2. what are some things to look out for that would make the skyline a good buy. 3. if so what mods would see me getting good results straight away... eg.. powerFC, intercooler, intake etc." Buying a tricked up skyline has its advantages, in that obviously its cheaper than buying a stock one and buying all the performance parts new. Be aware though, that they have probably been driven a lot harder. (Keep some money for future repairs, regardless.) Things do break! the most tedious repair ive had to do is an exhaust manifold gasket.. that was a headache, with broken studs etc to top it all off :s Apart from some minor changes to bonnet/headlights, the s1, and 2 look practically identical. Series 2 came with airbags and cruise. not sure what other differences. obviously the series 2 will probably be in marginally better condition. less mileage, etc. so it's up to u to decide if u want to spend an extra 3-4 k at least for a s2. For quick results, get a good exhaust system, then get decent sized front mount intercooler, and turn up the boost to a mild 9-10 psi. the difference is unbelievable, will make it a whole new car. If u want to go further, get a better dump pipe off the turbo, get a powerfc as u mentioned, which primarily will stop the mixtures richening right up higher in the rev range as they do with the standard ecu. theres a never ending list of things you could do.. I prefer the r33, excellently priced, and look great. Very good interior space as well. excellent handling, and with some mods u wont even realize its a bit heavier than the average 2 door sports import..
  18. Why do people bother posting, trying to make themselves look so much better than "gts4dood" when most of you people dont even know him! (i dont) I seriously wonder how many of you would leave your precious skyline at home if it had a headlight globe out, speedo not working, or a missing pedal pad. this post is not directed at anyone in particular, just the few people who attack the person who posted, Instead of replying to the original question! ("Is there anyway i can get out of the points as this will see me catchin the damn train to work for the next year!") I love how people on here own turbo skylines and pretend they never speed Except most people on here drive a skyline with a Functioning speedo! I wonder how many people on here actually take it to the track, (Im sure there are a few mature skyline owners though) There is hardly ever an excuse for speeding - but if you DO hammer your skyline now and again and post insulting, and abusive remarks toward the person who started the thread just for kicks, you should be ashamed of yourself. You're only young once, hopefully you survive. Learn from other people's mistakes, not your own.
  19. if u want to know the speed ur reaching, drive with someone that has a speedo that goes further, ie, to 240 or watever and measure off them, (though their speedo will probably be inaccurate as well, but at least u get the idea).
  20. oops, didnt see your sig til just now. its got all the info i need anyway
  21. what date is the next g.o.r. cruise ? hopefully my cars back on the road when the insurance are finished with it. intercooler, piping, stereo and boost gauge got stolen.
  22. gor is the best. also the inland road to apollo bay is insane as well, via moriac i think its called. heaps of dead straight roads where u can just fly! as well as twisty sections going thru rainforest which is excellent as well. really fun especially when u happen to meet fellow hoons, commodore ss's and other cars where u end up with like 2-3 cars just hammering it in convoy fighting for first position B)
  23. man you should be able to take it to court, isnt there an option on the infringement notice?
  24. just following the exhaust theme here rather than start a new topic. i get this flutter under boost. t-t-t-t-t which has worsened to a squeel when cold or at fullboost occasionally. im not losing boost pressure, and it doesnt come on just free revving in neutral so i cant trace the sound. can it be exhaust manifold gasket? It looks like a pain to do especialy with all the stuff in the way.. anyone done this? and how long did it take
