  1. Going back years, but i had a prob like you describe when i first got my series one. Although your car is mainly stock, boost will rise above stock due to the cooler and exhaust, and when the ecu see's up to a certain level it will pull timing, which on mine occured as you describe. When it was cold weather i would get what sounded like rev-limiter like pop sounds as it went through that flat range. Anyone correct if thats wrong. I threw on an FC and got a tune which sorted everything out.
  2. with our dollar how it is, theyd still be coming out on top after a refund?
  3. ^^lol so why is it dangerman 4, 4 door skyline?
  4. From memory the last time i read something regarding singles vs twins, was that with turbos these days there wasnt a world of difference between singles/twins in terms of response? a lot of feedback on great response from things such as the T04Z's? BTW, totally agree on the buy it built philosophy! But honestly you couldnt have told me that until i had built it first. NOW i realise . Also when you say build it yourself, do you mean literally building it yourself, or you mean buying every bit yourself and have someone else build it? coz if someone else is building it, just buy one done by someone with a good name and at the same time you can knock years off your mortgage!
  5. Well a LOT of luck for me. Looks like I came back just in time, and chased up the 'old' address. There were 3 delivery attempts by fedex but since that address has been vacant for some time now no one was there to get it. So i call up fedex and they tell me how lucky i am, as they were going to send it back to sender TODAY. so one day more and it would of been more mess! Finally i have the thing sitting in front of me, serial numbers on shaft and invoice matching too. i have 0708048 ill go measure up so ive got an 840mm carbon section and a 1120mm total, can anyone confirm the correct length for the 2000model 33 shaft?
  6. whilst some torque is sent to the front, on that initial moment that the clutch is dropped at potentially 8000rpm, wouldnt the main shaft take 100% of the torque for that instant, and moreso if your running on some sticky DR's? and it is only that tiny fraction of a second of high load that would do the damage id think? Certainly for the majority the lighter shaft will reap the most benefit, but either way the bigger shaft will no doubt be a good piece of mind to the guys running or planning to run big power and launches.
  7. thats good news to hear, thanks for staying up to make that call! i will actually be back in Aus next week so should actually work out great for me
  8. these sound interesting. definitly love to know the power handling here. 10.5pounds is super light. wouldnt mind one of these, however judging on how things are going in the other shaft group buy, ill have to wait until thats resolved first!
  9. i guess it will be a bit dissapointing if the 2000 model comes in over 9kg... greenline state their TRUST ACPT carbon shaft to be 7.4kg (normal 14.9kg). It also costs Y360,000++ which is well over FIVE GRAND aussy. The picture looks different to both our glossy ones and justin fox's matt one. Im wondering just how many different types of carbon shaft acpt make, and how much do they vary in quality???? How is the shaft 5grand or more and ours is only 1500? even if greenline is making a healthy profit, and even if you factor in a huge quantity group buy, it still wouldnt factor in over 3grand price difference... Could we be getting some sort of old stock shelf model that "roughly" fits our requirements, hence custom spacers and such are being required to fit?
  10. Yeah that was my little experiment. From what i learned it depends on what turbo/power your going to run which will help you decide if honing the manifold will be worth it.
  11. after people started getting their shafts i figured all this was sorted. so i forgot about it then just realised i hadnt got the shaft yet. I check back here and see all this mess, half delivered, someone gets 2, serial numbers all mismatched and to top it off a mystery buyer FFS!! seriously i dont think this could be more of a mess if we tried! lol Ill PM you back now Andrew.
  12. lol im keen to know this too ^^ Havent got mine yet but Thanks for all the work Andrew, in all seriousness, would you organise another GB after all this!?!
  13. agree with all your points. when i got my 33, 34 prices were way up there, and by the time youd finished fixing up a 32 and putting more cash into it the 33 was clearly the smart option. Ideally i want one of each in my garage, have one a 3litre, one a 26 and one a stroker and each would be a very different animal!
  14. Surely the guy who penned this part of the car grew up admiring stingray corvettes
  15. So far im impressed, i liked the 350's but something just wasnt right with the looks. I love how nissan has porsche targeted, first their beloved turbo and now the cayman, which from what ive read is an awesome drive, so will expect big things from this 370! Can anyone else see the early 80's corvette in the midsection?!?? nice
  16. who are we waiting on, and have you been in contact with them? cheers
  17. ive been too busy to follow this purchase, the pm prompted me to check the thread and i find a 16page blowout.. before i go wiring away more money, is this 100% sorted and good to go now guys?
  18. not disputing this, just interested, but better how?
  19. LOOL at akeenan i wasnt even gonna open the pic until your comments made me curious to see this chick in pink, so i open it and think "what chick in pink?" then i see her waaay back in the blurry background. great spot! puaha
  20. your making the power of a 2835 but requiring more boost, but im not sure how much hub figures wary from wheel figures? certainly looks like you have all the right supporting mods to make the power. Sure you havent gone for a little spin around the block yet? I know i would have
  21. The fact is that for ANY ecu your gonna get people saying "Ive got one and its fine and i love it!" You'll also find that for most products, a few complaints will surface here and there. The importance lies in the second point, take note of how many horror stories tally up for certain products, and it would make sense go for one that has a much higher satisfaction rating across the board. In regards to the microtech, I used one, but ended up changing to an FC. On the microtech i had NO problems with smoothness, throttle response idling or anything, and when i changed to the FC you wouldnt have been able to tell the difference. Thats when the microtech was working.. I got rid of it as it kept leaving me stranded coz it wouldnt start, after returning it to get checked out and got the all clear, the tune was out and the rev limiter seemed to have been removed then it left me stranded one more time and got rid of it. i have no doubt a microtech can get you the power and get it smoothly, but why take a risk when there are so many that say avoid it. I heard the complaints and still went for it, could have saved a lot of headache. My 2c
  22. Thanks for the replies, Rob, im only looking at 800engine HP, so a lot less than the 970whp you referred to - which by the way was the gate venting to atmo? For convenience sake and from the input given, a decent 3.5inch system should be fine especially if i vent the gate externally cheers
  23. LOL no shit, is this bluebird/VLT Darren??! I havent been called that in years! HAHA
  24. I am also interested in peoples experiences, but i think the problem is that the poll is not specific enough. A million people can give their opinion on which kit theyd like to spend their $$ on should the opportunity arise, all that might achieve is tell us what brand name people like and nothing in relation to real world performance. Theres around 50 votes for jap strokers alone, maybe a quarter of those at best votes are experience/results based? Im not saying people without any experience shouldnt have voted as it does basically ask us what kit we would choose, hell i have a stroker kit and cant even give any feedback on it yet other than all the bits look nice Gav, please take the time to give your feedback on the various kits youve driven, i think it would be one of the more useful posts in this thread. Yes unfortunately this thread has gone off road, but its good to see professional and objective responses from RIPS despite some uncalled for attacks and dodgy factual posts.
