A good tuner on a good dyno should be able to sort this issue out quite easily. Shouldn't take 3 pages to sort !!! The power FC CAN pull timing out as the water temp rises. With the datalogit you can change the water temp threshold points and the amount of timing pulled out. The water temp usually does rise when a car is pinging. You can have the power FC pull out huge numbers of timing at 80 degree's water temp if the tuner so desires.

Yep, sorry dude. Wasn't having a go at you. Its a pet annoyance of mine when people get idiolised(with or without good reason) and you are not allowed to have a different opinion. I am interested in this comment, if you wish to explain it further ? I agree with everything else you say. Be quite intersted in your EGT results too if you wish to share ?

Stumbled accross an un-questionable net god have I ? If he know's "his shit" he will know not everyone is always right about things(including myself ) they believe to be true and accept other peoples opinions for what they are .....

I think you will find that this is very simular to those that say 15psi + on an rb25 turbo = wheel off It works for some people and not for others, its just a rule of thumb. At any rate I don't think you could argue it will increase the chances of the wheel coming off and people should be warned. I am sure you have some story of how you did it and it was fine for you ... IN YOUR CASE. The same applies for the timing, all thnigs being equal you are probably right. Bad or low octane fuel will make you wrong.

man your in some trouble. The greddy kit is a NOS brand kit with a greddy controler, you buy that and you are paying way to much !! Much better of buying a local kit. I would look into Zex if that kit was in your budget. Also that kit I believe is a dry kit. Your really better of with a wet kit for turbo cars(argueable i know) If you are running a wet kit all you would really need is a good fuel pump and a turbo with a steel wheel. You won't need ecu/tune or extra injectors with a wet kit. Or you can burn of your turbo wheel and use it as an excuse to upgrade, waste of $450 turbo though. Your engine will handle 50hp shot of nos all day every day, just jet the wet kit on the rich side. Usual nos things also apply. Change heat range in plugs and take about 2 deg of base timing out. Tuning the NOS on the dyno would be the ideal though.

Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
Butters replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Wouldn't a 25 crank make it closer to 2.3 litres ? -
I've heard of a lot of bad results with cometic gaskets and people swearing that a stock gasket is better. Rb20's as a rule don't have many head gasket issues. I would stick with the stock one if it was me. The ARP bolts will be fine with any gasket. Adam on this forum is making 370 rwhp with a bone stock rb20. So I think thats an easy rule of thumb of how much power an rb20 gasket can take. The only other option I would look at is a Tomei one. Just my opinions, take m or leave m

Why Use A Surge Tank? What Is The Real Purpose?
Butters replied to Sayajin's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
This is an interesting topic to me. Going back you would never even consider trying to run up a gtr with 550rwhp on a single in-tank fuel pump. Now it gets done all the time. People used to spend $1000's on over complicated fuel systems that made your boot smell like a BP refinery. I am wondering now what in-tank options can take you to 700rwhp. A single intank bosch 044 seems good to about 550 - 600rwhp. Does anyone know if you can fit Two bosch 044's through that nissan fuel tank hole ? Is their a pump that can be mounted in-tank that flows more then an 044 ? -
Yer pretty much. Car was making 400rwhp. It would lean over quite badly from 6500 rpm to redline. I gained very little more top end hp at the same boost but the power drop of was much less dramatic, it made around 20 - 30 rwhp MORE at 7500 rpm. Was trying to avoid buying a greddy plenum, as I have seen them loose a heap of power from 3500 - 5000 rpm due to the short runners. Got me the result i want but I don't think its the ultimate solution for out right power. Note this is SR20 info, so results may be quite different for an RB.

I did a back to back on an SR20 manifold. Overall I wasn't blown away with the results. There was definetly gains though. The problem aparently with my manifold to begin with was the runners where all very un-even. So rather then focusing on increasing the overall flow he spent the time making the flow even. Gave me piece of mind that each cyclinder was getting the same amount of air but not massive gains to talk of. As also mentioned there were still a few bumps left. The finish wasn't as mirror like as i expected. Again though this could be because he was trying to make them even. I've done a much better finish my self by hand but obviously I can't get to the area's in the manifold he can with the dinosaur poo. Its definetly worth doing but I think only at the top end of the scale. I would also hand port anything this time before i sent it of to be honed.

Y33 Vq30det Turbo To Rb20/25det
Butters replied to MisfitCeffy666's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
be careful Vex typed vg30 NOT V Q 30 so not sure if he's right there as they are very different turbo's. here is some for sale http://www.vq30det.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=40 and some dicussion about the idea http://www.vq30det.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=29 still meaning to get two and have a crack at it -
As cubes mentions AFR's are very important. I think boost is fine as long as its low boost. I ran mine in with about 5 - 6 psi. Low rpm is key as well. My limiter was set to 5000 rpm for the run in. It's also important to put varying load on the engine during the run in. Taking it down the freeway and sitting on 100km/h only is not a good thing. Its worth going through a hills area that will load up the engine a bit. Changing the oil during run is very important to. I was pretty keen with this. Engine was first filled with run in oil but most people say any mineral oil is fine. First fire up ran it till it got hot at about 2000 rpm. Shut down change the oil. This gets most the assembly lube outa the engine. then did 100km/s oil change then another 400ks then change oil and went to synthetic then 500k's and another synthetic change total 1000k's and then time to tune it for full rev range. Take heaps of pics of build too. People always interested

rev210 so you can confirm 100 % the SAFC neo has Knock reading ?

Doing a good job dude, really interested to see how it works out !! I don't see why 500rwhp would be a problem with an rb23. There a rb23/24 in Japan that runs low 10's, thats gotta be close to 500rwhp. SR20's do 500rwhp to so its not a capacity thing. I think just a matter of getting the intake manifold and head to flow enough air. Don't be too afraid to have a go at porting yourself. You sound like you have a fair idea. Porting is not the mystical beast a lot of people think it is. Wish all the rb20 haters would shut up and leave this thread alone though ... Sure sure there is logic to do rb25/26 but why not be diffferent FFS !!
-
Double post sorry.
-
Depends on how your gauge reads dude. A lot of low qual gauges about that read way off. Also rb20 donk is fairly low comp I'd expect 130 - 150. You look more for variation. The readings on your engine are awesome !!

Ok found some pics I have. This is one front bar on GTR guards(fits ok) and the GTR bonnet. http://butters.gallery.netspace.net.au/alb...Front_Small_004 http://butters.gallery.netspace.net.au/alb...rner3_Small_003 I have two PM"s saying they will take the bars, so they most likely sold. Will keep you posted
