Putting it on the ship before approval?

K i will ring DOTARS. But I know what they will say. I was hoping there might be proof that it will be all good, but ofcourse DOTARS will say u need approval first. I will call and see tho. Thanks guys. -

Gday Guys, My Importer has suggested that I try to get my car on the ship now (it is loading) but I have not as yet even sent away the forms for import approval. Has anyone done this? He says worst case scenario it will sit on dock in aus until it's approved. And he says they HAVE to approve it since it is a 15 + y/o car. Anyone KNOW (please don't guess...I need fact) if it is safe to do this? On the import approval request form, at the bottom it states... "If you have chosen to ship your vehicle before receiving an import approval, should your vehicle arrive before the application is processed, an approval cannot be issued" That says to me, if it lands before we get approval, I wont EVER get the car? The other option is I wait 1.5 months or however long the round trip is for the boat. (Kiwi) Cheers Chris

go to a shop, listen to the same song(s), on the same headunit, with all the different speakers. work out which u like the sound of most. Find out if they are amped, if they arent, maybe u dont need an amp. Personally i wont ever buy alpine speakers again. That is my choice tho. For under a ground u can get sum decent gear. If sum1 says "yeah xx brand is the best" that is their choice, u gotta hear it for yaself.... My choice is 'Focal' but if u get decent speakers u will want a decent HU. U wont get a decent focal setup for under $1000...unless u only want the speakers amp. As for subs. Generally speaking, the smaller the sub, the tighter (punchier) the bass. I have 2x12s which was cause i used to listen to rap, now i listen to punk.metal and the 12's cant keep up, i will be going for 8's in the doors my line IF i do a system.

double clutching is when you r in gear, lets say 1st, put the clutch in, put it into neutral, let the clutch out, put the clutch back in, put into 2nd, let clutch out. I have no idea why that line of "not double clutching when you're supposed to" line was in fast and the furious. cause u wouldnt do it in a drag race...it was done on really old cars like moris minors where the box wouldnt handle it.. maybe there is a more modern thing that they call double clutching, but that is what i have always known it as. It also helps on dodgy boxs like my dad's subaru Maybe you are talking about flat shifting...where u just leave the throttle pinned instead of backing off...but that's not really the impression i got from your post. Either way, it sounds like a good way to wreck ya box and clutch for the sake of a few milliseconds? Correct me if I'm wrong

A until they hassle me. C if they tailgate REAL close and are giving the bird etc. D if they obviously wanna get past, but aren't being tools about it. BTW my mate had this happen today, he stayed at 50, commodore got angry, had a wheel brace (the rod type ones) out the window waving around...ended up taking a short cut(well long cut but went fast) and throw a bottle of brake fluid at the car when he got out in front, then took off ...mate chased him..ended up out the front with the guy with the iron and him nothing, the wuss wouldnt come onto the road tho (ie. mate didnt wanna trespass and the hero was a wuss) Cops rolled past at the time, so now they are going to caught.

in all fairness guys, my understanding is he didnt ask the guy to hold it, he asked the guy to let him know when he was selling it. Perhaps he just lost the info.

Just thought I'd add to the list - Looks like I am playing the waiting game. I 'won' at an auction on saturday. 89 gtst 4 door, silver. I am not 100% on the details yet, my importer is getting back to me today with that and high quality pics. He ships on Kiwi tho, and is gonna truck it down from QLD to Sydney. I will keep ya's informed of my progress (and no doubt pics when i get them - in a different thread of course)

kewl. thanks.

rev210 - thanks for kinda answering my question. to the others : i was asking why different BOVs are better...not that i only wanted noise. In fact i want as little noise as possible. So if anyone knows - I am still curious as to the difference between BOV's other than noise. If the stock is good enuff, then i will keep it, but still curious about the different BOVs. Cheers Chris

Thanks. I didn't expect a performance gain as such, but my understanding was the BOV will release the pressure (obviously) thus taking load of the system...therefore running a 'safer' system. Especually with high amounts of boost (Which I won't be running anyways) I always planned to get a plumb back, I am not an attention person, I hate attention... but if u get a plumb back how do you know it is working if u cant hear it? Still curious about the differences in the different BOVs.

R32 Type M - What's The Difference?

kewl thanx guys. -
Hey everyone, Noob question. Searched but didn't find what I was after. Just trying to get some information, why is X BOV better than Y BOV. Why pay, say $400 for one, when you can get one for say $100 (just guestimating prices) Apart from the sound, what is the difference? Assuming there is a reason for going better ones, does it only matter if you have a decent amount of HP? Just curious as when I get my skyline I will be doing FMIC/BOV/DBC. Cheers Chris
-
Thanks, It will be hard to have the jap guys do that for me at the auction, if most have it i will just deal with it when i get it. No biggy. Thanks Chris

Hey guys, I am importing a r32 GTST 4 door ASAP. I am just wanting to know about HICAS - Did all models have it ? How can you tell? I will only be disabling it when I get it anyways, so I might just try to find one without it....if they exist? Cheers Chris

I searched, but found no results. Has anyone ever heard of All In One Imports in Sydney? Dealt with them? What was your experience? He is known as "importer" on http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/ and seems to have a good rep there with parts and alarms, however I have found nothing on him regarding car imports. So far I have found them very good, but I am about to trasnfer money to start bidding this week, thought I would try to find out some experiences. If you do not wish to discuss in topic, please email or PM me. Cheers Chris

CARL SCULLY IS GOING DOWN, now i'm really pissed off!!!
eXc replied to 78vbsle's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I reckon they should put a power ban on p platers. Bikes have had it for ages, (and it proved worthwhile) y shouldnt cars? I think there should be a way to allow people to still get the cars however. Like maybe if you are a member of a club (ie. u r responsible...doing your fun stuff of the street). Maybe they allow you to have performance cars once you complete some type of special test (ideally a driving school) I think power restriction is a good thing - As long as there is a way that responsible people can still have them. Simple...prove yourself as responsible and have them, dont be responsible and don't. Just my $0.02 -
