  1. If it was a genuine 5 bolt un cropped garrett gt3071r, you sir are a fool!
  2. well no its not, because a. they are usually rated to the turbo's capability that they come fitted on b. the gate is not restricted in motion (eg if the desired pressure is reached, the gate is completly free to funtion as normal (as aposed to having a screw behind it physically blocking it from opening) c. the wastegate port hole is also free to flow air once preset pressure is achieved, so that all exces air can vent, unlike another "modification method of screwing down bolts to block flow out from the wastegate hole therefor the wastegate actuator spring idea is not backyard, however i believe the other methods states in the later parts of b. and c. are 'backyard' this is why i always say i would like to see tests on the turbo's using these other forms of "boost control" performed such as exhaust gas temp tests, and exhaust manifold pressure tests also! as it's not just about boost and power... its about the otehr detremental things happening to your engine through poor modifications made to turbo's in order to force them to hold boost
  3. just because a turbo can be 'Forced' by ways of crude modifications to hold boost, isnt nessasarily a good thing! both I and a mate have trialed a couple of hypergear turbos on our car, both sets of turbos on both sets of cars had lots of trouble holding boost, by ways of blocking off/restricting the wastegate hole via a retro fitted modification the turbos were made to hold boost 'fairly well' and yet no more power was achieved as the modification mearly forced the turbo to do something it didnt want to do, creating excessive heat, high exhaust manifold pressure, and in turn hot valves, and detonation just because you can modify a turbo to un naturally hold boost, doesnt mean it is a good thing for either the engine or the turbo? and unfortunatly alot of people don't understand this, are only interested in the basic figures, like "how much boost" and "how much power"
  4. haha Ron that sold a while ago actually.. just put it up to bump the thread dannk - no harness included, turbo timer only, you can buy plug and play harnesses fairly cheaply that just plug in to the car... or it can be hard wired.
  5. i think the head bolts are torque to yield.... so yes replace headbolts at the will have stretched!
  6. im supprised that a red car which has been sitting in a front yard for 4 years is still red! but on the note of this topic... we could always do with another whale on the road!
  7. I span the wheels driving off out of the boat ramp today... please come and lock me up, throw away the key and crush my car! *rolls eyes*
  8. I don't agree with either of those two comments,... my hpx (which were bedded in correctly and given a freshly machined rotor) have destroyed my rotors after just 18,000km and the brake dust I wouldnt decribe it as very low dust i dont care how cheap they are, when you have to replace rotors before the pad wears out, and people think your car is under maintained due to an annoying squeal when coming to rest at every traffic stop... i would rather pay more! my new DBA 4000 series rotors will be treated with project mu NS
  9. what about exhaust manifold gas temps? i wouldnt be worried about the turbo... its the valves i would be worried for! plus the extreame temps isnt going to help with knock and summer is around the corner... i would be toning this down a bit for safety
  10. another gazelle man! i just sold my gazelle also! what skyline did you buy?
  11. the only thing i can think of is that i havent had the car retuned for this new turbo... still tuned for old turbo, and i believe its running really rich, so possibly fouling the plugs and when the engine gets up to temperature its hot enough to overcome the fouled plugs? because i put the new set of plugs in when it was stone cold, and it had no issues with the fresh plugs, but the next morning it started to come back.. and progressivly got worse over the next couple of days and thoughts Trent? i must get off my arse and get back in for the retune
  12. by cold enrichment settings, do you mean water temp correction? if so +80°c 1.00 1.00 +50°c 1.09 1.15 +30°c 1.14 1.29 +10°c 1.32 1.65 -10°c 1.39 1.73 -30°c 1.59 2.00
  13. I did an extensive search, and couldnt really find anything useful to help me my problem is when the car is cold, it missfires really badly, coughs and splutters and won't drive right and is under powered there is no problems starting the car, it starts like a dream, and then even idles like a dream, but if i touch the accelerator or try to drive the car it just misfires really badly and is under powered and hessitates it also blows a fair bit of smoke as i drive up my hill after cold start (will this be the unburnt fuel from the misfiring cylinder?) once the engine coolant temp reaches 50-60 degrees C the problem goes away and the car is fantastic! i've got splitfire coilpacks (few months old) bcpr7es 0.8mm gapp plugs (replaced 3 days ago, the first cold start the car was great!, but then the next morning it was back to this problem) fmic 3-3.5" turbo back exhaust gt3071r - (1 month old) 555cc injectors - bosch yellows (4 months old) z32 afm - (4 months old) 040 fuel pump - (1 year old) power fc what could be the problem?
  14. ahh happy birthday.. you can drive your car legally now!
  15. i'm an apprentice through a labour hire company, its not that bad
  16. not a motor mechanics appreticeship wage anyways.... other trades like electrical and plumbing are another story
  17. did you ever end up calling rylan about the catback?
  18. pretty sure none of the cars indicated enough before changing lanes! lol
  19. yeh man, i'd take a crap load of photos of both the car and the accident site, and keep it in one piece for now until the police come back to you with thier report.... seeing as she has no insurance, she probably has no money either... so not sure how far sueing her will get you.... but still definatly do it... unfortunatly she might just be forced to give you $100 a month for the next 10 years, depending on her financial situation ... or something stupid like that
  20. yes very good result, these figures are with an aftermarket comp housing, chra and rear housing.... , so as stao said, those are a completely aftermarket turbo... not a highflow
  21. yeh huge differences between nissan 6 bolt and garrett 5 bolt! i wouldnt be comparing a 6 bolt 3071 to a 5 bolt 3076!
