  1. Nope, I reckon it's rod bolts.
  2. So that means EVERYTHING ELSE isn't standard?
  3. Nope, I personally I reckon Clyde is the worst. Probably Kwinana is the best. Never been to Bulwer Island, so I can't comment on that one.
  4. So it has close ratio sequential dog engagement gearbox, runs BF Goodrich Drag radials, has an ATS LSD front and rear and is lightened so that it weighs 100 kgs with driver? Seriously, what isn't standard? PS What's this :headspin: Surely you are kidding? Cold, dry weather for engine power and sunshine to make the track surface warm and sticky. This is when the best times are run. :aroused:
  5. "Lower quality" than who?
  6. No, not really. This isn't the same problem as the other thread... If the GTR has standard 414cc injectors then that would mean the limit is 414 bhp If it has larger injectors then it's the fuel pump, so that's 425 bhp If it has standard exhaust, then it probably won't get to the limit of the injectors. If it is running standard boost, then it definitely won't get to the limit of the injectors. One mans STANDARD is another man's HIGHLY MODIFIED. :headspin:
  7. When you say STANDARD what do you mean? Standard exhaust? Standard boost? Standard fuel? Standard ECU? Standard injectors?
  8. You really need to go and look at a refinery, they don't pour crude in one pipe, add a few secret hurbs and spices and petrol magically comes out the other. It is a very complex process and one that requires enornmous costs to upgrade equipment. The refineries in Australia are very old, particularly Clyde and Geelong and they need upgrading to make premium unleaded that complies to the emmissions standards. It is my understanding that if the Govt instituted the 2005 emmisions standard for fuel now, many refineries would fail. So they are undergoing big upgrades this year. This means quality changes (improves?) daily, well monthly anyway. :aroused:
  9. OK, I'm sucked in, the heading of this thread says ... But it is running 1.2 bar, that's not STANDARD is it? Does it have the STANDARD exhaust as well? What else isn't STANDARD? :headspin: Maybe the heading should be PARTIALLY STANDARD or ALMOST STANDARD.
  10. The question was......... My answer was That means the CAM GEARS are the same, not that the CAMS are the same. Or have I missed something?
  11. So they don't refine at their Bulwer Island refinery? Quote from BP's own web site http://www.bp.com.au/refineries/refineries...es.asp?menuid=d
  12. So they don't refine at their Bulwer Island refinery?
  13. Are tou trying to actually find the location of a leak or see if there is one? If we are trying see if there is a leak, we use 2 boost gauges. One plumbed in at the turbo compressor outlet and one plumbed in at the plenum. If there is a leak there is a big difference in the boost readings. Particularly at low boost levels. Much more than the simple resistance of the pipework and intercooler. Hope that helps
  14. Hi guys, anybody bought a tow bar for their Stagea yet?
  15. Nengun sell new ones for Yen 32,500, that's ~$400 at the current exchange rate. http://www.nengun.com/index.php?cPa...d6bda83f25bc318 I bought an FPR from Nengun last month and the postage was less than $20, so an SAFC wouldn't be much more. The offer as per my PM still applies.
  16. Aren't R34 and R33 springs different?
  17. Let's see, I could start with RB25DET's have one ball bearing, watercooled turbo and a GTR has two plain bearing, oil cooled turbos. Then I would follow it with GTR's have a hot diff bolted to the side of the sump and a drive shaft running through it. I would finish up with GTR's make more power (standard) so they have to produce more heat. I am sure other could add to the list.
  18. There is no substitute for capacity.
  19. No, but the base product would be if they are sharing sourcing. Ask yourself this "where is the Ultimate at my local BP coming from?" The BP refineries are in WA or Qld, so is it worthwhile them trucking it all that way? How many petrol tankers do you see on the road between Perth and Melbourne? Yep, all refineries have different standards. They may aim for the same product but some refineries can never get there with their current equipement. That's why Shell is spending many millions upgrading Clyde and Geelong. Nope, there are Australian standards but the tolerances are quite large ie; I believe I could sell 96 octane and claim it was 98. Check the disclaimers on the oil companies' web sites. Never seen a patent on the chemical compostion of fuel, I don't think you could get one. The formulas and the chemicals used are all so well known, you could make your own if you wanted. Maybe, but the refining quality and the source crude composition make far more of a difference than a very minor % of additives. rb20-calais said Do you really think oil company additives did that?Just cause the sign out the front says "BP" doesn't mean BP made "everything" they sell there.
  20. Hi Shoey, I would never ever take a GTR to the circuit with a standard sump and without an oil cooler. Oil surge is always very close. The more power you have or the better the suspension and tyres, the closer it is to oil starvation. It builds up in the head due to constant high rpm, the engine uses a bit, the oil gets over heated and it runs away from the oil pickup around the corners due to g forces. We do the following; *Add wings, one way doors and baffles to the sump *Use an oil cooler with remote filter *Increase the diameter of the oil return galleries in the head and block *Fit an external oil return direct into the sump from the rear of the cylinder head *Use hi viscosity oil (Castrol Formual R Synthetic 10W60 in our case) Our race team fabricator makes ours as I am not happy with the "off the shelf" products. Performance Metalcraft do a really good custom sump for GTR's. :aroused: That would be my choice for "retail" product, there are probably others around. As for you questions about 5 laps being enough, I have seen a GTR chuck a rod out of the side of the block in 3 laps. You were lucky. Hope that helps :wavey:
  21. Shell has the Clyde refinery in Sydney and Geelong in Victoria. I sugest you have a read of this thread.... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=38750
  22. Hi Ben, we use alloy intercooler pipes. If I need one quickly GCG have them in stock, they also have a lip making machine.
  23. Condensation, basically the same as what comes out the exhauts pipe when you first start up in the morning.
  24. Maybe that applies to "Melbourne" Optimax, "Sydney" Optimax is OK.
