writeoff replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
No-one has posted the results of WHEELS tyre test so ... 1st - Goodyear Eagle Revspec RS-02 (99.2%) 2nd - Michelin Pilot Preceda (98.9%) 3rd - Maxxis Victra MA-Z1 (98.7%) 4th - Bridgestone Potenza S-03 (98.6%) 5th - Toyo Proxes T1R (97.6%) 6th - Yokohama AVS Sport V-102A (96.9%) 7th - BF Goodrich G-Force Sport (95.9%) 8th - Dunlop Direzza DZ 101 (94.9%) 9th - Kumho Ecsta KU19 (94.3%) The Goodyear RS-02 won the Dry stopping and Wet cornering. The Maxxis MA-21 won Wet stopping. The Bridgestone S-03 won Dry cornering and Dry slalom. I rang Tyrepower (Brighton, SA) today and was quoted on 245/40/18s (R34 GTR) Goodyear RS-02: $490 Michelin Pilot Preceda: $550 Toyo T1R: $475 In the same size I was also quoted: Toyo TPG: $275 Toyo RA1 (Motorsport): $525 (although the guy said these retail at $625 but was able to get a good price because he wants customer feedback on them) -
abs and 4wd problem
writeoff replied to always_me's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've got the same problem with my R32 GTR. The 4WD light is on because the car is only in rwd (it constantly lights up in 2nd with medium pedal presure) but I haven't sussed why the ABS light is on. -
Thanks NUBS. I'll give Leeroy a call today.

OBES, I had my R32 GTR dyno tuned yesterday and it has standard turbos and a standard computer (although this may have been piggybacked) with similar mods to yours and ran 232.7rwkW @ 15psi.

Hi All, I've posted this thread in the South Australian section but thought other users of this forum might know a quality auto electrician. I live in Adelaide. I finally got my GTR on the road yesterday and tuned at Turbo Tune. It ran 232.7rwkW @ 15psi. The car is only in rear wheel drive. The fuse is fine, the car has a Field Torque Controller that can adjust the drive b/w the front and rear wheels. Unfortunately this is not connected... So I need an quality auto electrician who knows what s/he is doing to reconnect this and the Billion Variable Fan Controller. I've already had Mobile Auto Electrical have a go and they connected up alot of the other computers etc but couldn't get these last two working. I have manuals but they are in Japanese. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Was at it again last night and just took the red GTR out of the pack and tried slipstreaming this car alone. The others hung back slightly behind us. I got closer, 1.7secs behind, but still no cigar, no Zonda, and no happy, happy, joy, joy dance.
-
Hey MattR, I'll let you know when I'm through Regency and putting the R34 rims on.

Hi All, I'm having real trouble completing the Driving Mission #23 in GT4. It's the slipstreaming one using R34 GTRs. One is miles in front while the others hang around in a pack. I've tried dragging the pack along for three laps but never get within 3 secs. I've also tried ditching the pack and going it alone but my best is 2.7 secs behind the leader. Any suggestions? I need this to win the Pagini Zonda.

GTR tune up on a 2WD dyno
writeoff replied to writeoff's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Okay, so after reading all this it seems that there is no real difference in the mapping etc of a GTR on a 2WD dyno vs a 4WD dyno but the rwkW figures will be slightly higher. Have I got this right? Cubes, any reason why you wouldn't recommend Turbo Tune? -
Cars You have Owned So Far...
writeoff replied to smokin_skyline's topic in General Automotive Discussion
1. 1978 Toyota Corola (writen off by someone rear-ending me doing 80kmph) 2. 1989 Peugeot 205 GTI (economical writeoff after I hit a guard rail - someone bought it, fixed it up, sold it, and I still see it occasionally) 3. 1991 Peugeot 205 GTI (still own and still pouring $ into) 4. 1989 Bentley Eight (still own but am getting ready to sell) 5. 1989 R32 GTR (hopefully pick up tomorrow for a cruise) 6. 1989 R32 GTR (waiting to get through Regency) Also had a VX II Crapodore as work car which I hated with a passion. -
Hi Everyone, I'm about to get my GTR tuned up and was wondering what the differences are b/w using a 2WD vs a 4WD dyno. I rang Shaun from Boost Worx (2WD) and he said the power figures would be slightly different but the rest would make no difference. Michael from Turbo Tune (4WD) stated their would be a difference but didn't elaborate and the chick (she didn't give a name) from Tillbrooks (4WD) said that I'd want to do it on a 4WD dyno. Interestingly Shaun quoted $145, Michael $250, and Tillbrooks up to $500 depending on the computer. Thanks

Hi Ash, I've got stock R32 GTR rims on one of my GTRs atm but have R34 GTR rims waiting to go on. The car is still in the compliance process and I want it to pass Regency before changing them. I can't give you an exact date but it will be a least a few weeks. If you're interested let me know and I'll keep you updated.

Sorry I can't make the grand prix - I didn't realise that Adelaide United are playing on the same night and I've already bought a ticket. I'm keen to meet for the dinner and mini-cruise.

trouble logging in and posting
writeoff replied to writeoff's topic in Site discussion - including Ideas/Feedback & Bugs
Arrrrggg. This problem still continues. It's really p1$$ing me orf. I don't tick the 'remember me' box as I'm using a public computer. I go to contribute to a discussion and get the message that I'm not logged in. This can occur 5+ times. I'm logged in before I respond, and whenever I click on the 'post reply' box I get the screen to respond in. Then when I press 'submit reply' I get told I'm not logged in. PS - I meant to say thread above, not threat. PPS - This is the seventh time I've attempted to post this -
Best street Tyres
writeoff replied to OnTheBoost's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The latest Wheels mag tests a variety of tyres and the performance tyre which one was the Goodyear Revspec RS-02. http://www.goodyear.com.au/passenger-tyres.htm The Michelin Pilots came in a close second. From memory these tyres have either won or come second in every tyre test by Motor and Wheels over the last few years. Of course they cost plenty. I wanted to try the Revspec on my Peugeot 205 GTI but they don't come in my size (195/50/15). I currently have Dunlop FM901s on my grey GTR and have to buy some new tyres to fit the R34 GTR rims I've got for the white GTR. Don't know the cost of the Goodyears yet. I'll make some calls and post the results. -
Hi Moderators, I'm having real difficulty postiong anything. Everytime I respond to a thread I get the message that I'm not logged in. I log in again, get the welcome message, go to post something and get rejected again. Hopefully this works as I've logged in about 7 times today just to attempt to respond to a tread on tyres. Although if this threat reaches you I guess the problem has sorted itself out.

I'm keen. I'm new to this forum so it'll be good to meet some of ya. Anyway to lock the carpark? A park full of skylines etc would be pretty tempting for thieves.

Ryosuke, I've just imported three cars from Japan- two GTRs and a Bentley. When deciding to purchase remember that shipping will cost b/w $1-1.5k, insurance for shipping (total loss only) is b/w $2-300, customs, cleaning, customs agent fees etc will total about 25% of the cost of the vehicle. Compliance will vary depending on how many modifications need to come off, and how long it takes to remove them. The more standard the car the less compliance is - say $1-1.5k. If the car needs to go to the crash shop, say undercarrige damage due to poor forklifting, this adds another $800-1100. A visit to the local govt transport dept and stamp duty, rego, and insurance come next. Finally your car will need a service replacing all filters, fluids, spark plugs etc, and a tune up. As a % the Bentley ended up costing 60% over the cost opf the car to get it on the road. I don't have a final figure for the GTRs as one goes in to have its goodies reinstalled and serviced today, and tuned on Friday. The other is at the compliance shop. I reasons for the delivery delays were that both GTRs were built in Nov 1989 and not eligible for import until Nov last year. As this was so close to Jan 1st 2005, I decided to wait for the import tax to drop from 15% to 10%. Alot of other people had the same idea and shipping places were difficult to get. Neither GTRs a/c had been degassed (despite the fact that I had paid for this) and the dept of environment and hereitage held back each GTR for 4 weeks while the appropriate paperwork was completed. And then there were problems with compliance. Certainly has tested my patience... and my wallet (which I believe may have an eating disorder as its been thinning so rapidly)
-
pentae, I feel your pain on the delay. I bought two R32 GTRs last year, one in April which I only picked up last Wednesday (and didn't even get home before something went wrong), the other one I purchased on 6.3.04 and it was finally released by customs last Wednesday as well so I could finally view it.

dunno yet. I've only driven the car 20km in peak hour traffic and haven't played with all its toys yet (plus most are in a box atm). The car has switches for fan speed below the stereo, and a Billion computer as well. When everything is back in and I've had a chance to play around I'll let you know.
-
In 2004 about 17,000 cars were imported into Australia, verses just under a 1,000,000 new car sales. I've just imported 3 cars under the 15 year rule. One thing you have to remember is that the final figure you pay for the car is about 60+% over the actual cost of the car (including rego & stamp duty, a service, and dyno tune). Everyone of the cars I brought in went thousands over the expected cost despite using cost calculators at two different import sites.

I live about 20kms south of the city. I'm a bit intimidated by the RB26 engine bay as it is completely new to me, and this car has several mods. The stuff that needs to go back on include: HKS EVC boost controller Field electronic torque controller Billion variable fan controller Defi stepmaster gauges and controller GReddy turbo timer Radar detector (don't know if this will work here) GREX oil cooler and the climate control switches need to be refitted in the glove box (to make way for the other bits listed above). I will check out the DIY forum though.

Bloody hell, I'm listed as a registered user already. Damn... how did they get in touch with all my exes so quickly?
