  1. true. looks like I'm going to make a phone call at some point.
  2. no idea. call them. my shop is in brisbane.
  3. its actually there because people found a way around the other rules so they put a new one in place. that said if you are looking for a car why would you not want a stock one to start from. at least you would not end up with a hand grenade like some kids did with the 15 yr R32 GTR.. so instead of popping off , think about it laterally for a sec. if you want something different then you pay a price to have it. fairly simple concept.
  4. RWG, whilst that one is 'close' it does not cover the 2.5lt or 3 lt variants. electrical is different as well.
  5. kristian, playing devils advocate here. one would assume that it was designed (ruling) to stop the retro rods coming in from the USA. for the enthusiast that knows what they are looking at (vs the kid that knows all the brand names) it probably wont slow them down. in the space of 30 sec I found a stock toyota for that fellow. the subaru I have been watching for a while now. from your side of things I see exactly where you are coming from. kid finds a nice R31 and says I want- you say no because it has a shopping list on the side of it and you are not sure what has been done to it.
  6. not really... if you have been at it for over 20 yrs you will see some shockers. most think an alarm can be fitted by anyone. it can. whether or not it works and does the intended job properly when fitted poorly is another question. also do you honestly think that if you lowballed every shop for audio and security that these shops would be around for long. we have overheads and that comes out in what we charge for our jobs. the short of it. if you have not got a clue on what you are doing - don't attempt it - pay a professional .
  7. it speaks a variant of J1850. that said the only beep you should have in the middle of the dash will be the screen. it you are getting that I would say the service reminder is active.
  8. you are paying for experience and not an online shop.. think about that for a sec.
  9. stylyn car audio - dorset rd. see adam.
  10. actually: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-289447967.htm $1700..
  11. so what is the problem. whilst they are on thin ground there is no reason why you cannot find a stock one and bring it in. read the example closely.. same as this: perfectly legal to bring in. its an 88 model - check. its stock - check. it needs and import approval and paperwork done - check. no issue with that. as an idea why look in japan for these cars- try NZ plenty of older jap imports there. part of the reason I'm looking there for the one above (and I have been watching these for the last 10 yrs!)
  12. 185kmh before it falls flat on its face.
  13. and we have a winner! DOTARS do random inspections as as well so these guys are under the gun to do things right. forcing their hand to cheat does not help things. also I agree with the previous post re cake and eat it too. if you cannot afford to bring the car in. get it properly certified then have the money spare to maintain it - why buy it. everyone has to make a living from their chosen profession and screwing them to bottom or below $ doesnt work for long. I see it daily in what I do and I simply pass the job in for someone else to do. I maintain margin and do not see why I should drop my pants because teh next guy witll fit a radio for $50 to a car I know its not possible to.
  14. only NA cars in that style I'm aware of are teh S15 Autechs. I have a varietta currently and I know a fellow that has the hardtop version as well. both NA and both outside of your budget. would suggest a look at the dotars site as to what can and can't come in. from memory S13 is off the list.
  15. chassis number would help but the part number I put up is correct for 90% of the cars.as for getting nissan involved- not really needed UNLESS you need the key codes. (send me a PM.) radio is easy to knock over its time and parts for me.
  16. exactly. and that purple sticker generally requires ALL fluids to be dropped, tires changed, cats changed and the car modified to suit the rules for passenger vehicles for this country. those in turn are used by the insurance companies to insure the vehicle. now if a insuance company wanted to they could void insurance on 90% of these cars simply by applying ADR rules to them. again it all comes back to the shops and $$. (or lack of it form a shops point of view and the customer wanted the best deal possible.)
  17. depending on the exchange $280-300 / key. if you are in brissy and have the key codes I'll program it for you.
  18. And we have the root of all evil - human nature.. (sorry brad) never mind the fact that since the car does nto conform to ADRs that you$3k/yr of insurance you pay doesn't mean squat, never mind the fact that if you bolted a kid seat in the back and it came loose under hard braking due to shoddy or non fitment of kid anchor points. nope its all about a good price over safety
  19. S14's sold locally - no go. S13 too old. RPS13 maybe but to land a straight one is over what you haev to spend.
  20. give me a sec (I want to get a box of pop corn.)
  21. fine with me. I called nissan on that and its $350-$375 new. understand that these are not cheap but you did buy a $80k car and parts are not going to be cheap for it.
  22. if I read that correctly the vehicle has a 'build' date of 1995. well and truly outside the 1989 rules. by that note if it COULD come in it would still have to be flipped and engineered. another point on that. the donor car (engine) had rear discs the truck does not. looks like the price of local rods just went up
